So I finally got Sims 3... I've always liked these games - I honestly can't tell you why, it's just addicting... I was making my first character and playing with all the different options (I never played Sims 2 so jumping from the original to 3 was REALLY awesome). ... Then I saw this... For those that can't read it. One of the traits you can have is Vegetarian and the description says Vegetarian Sims never choose to eat meat, and doing so causes them to quickly become ill. This actually REALLY bothers me! I've read it two different ways but it's hard to tell what that statement really means... Does it mean that when they DO eat meat they get sick or does it mean eating meat causes them to be ill? The way it's written made me instantly take it that being vegetarian makes you ill... It should really say "eating meat will make them ill, but their vegetarian diet makes these Sims more healthy and have a higher energy level".

I'm pretty sure they mean when (if?) they eat meat, it makes them ill, due to the use of the word 'quickly.' If it were the other way around, every vegetarian sim would quickly become ill just after being created. You're kinda making me want to play the sims again...

It is written badly. It is supposed to mean that the sim will get sick if she eats meat. http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Vegetarian

yeah, i could see it being interpreted either way, but it wouldn't make much sense to have an option that immediately made your character sick. It sounds more like they mean that if she eats meat she'll quickly become ill. from sims wiki posted above - this actually sounds awesome! Quote: Sim will learn vegetarian alternatives to common meat dishes when practicing the Cooking skill. Vegetarian Sims live longer than other Sims. Vegetarian Sims who eat meat will gain the negative "Nauseous" moodlet. Sim can "Complain about Meat".

In the past I've really disliked the Sims games (though I admit I gave them very little chance in the first place) but this is awesome and makes me want to play it a little!

And people can mock you for your vegetarianism, or praise you on your vegetarianism!

When they eat meat they puke. It's funny! And fellow Sims can "applaud on vegetarianism."

It's worded really badly so I interpreted it at first as being vegetarian makes them sick, but I think it's meant to be interpreted the other way. Hopefully anyways.

But, come on, Scruffleupagus, you know that vegetarians do get sick, because there's things you can ONLY get from meat.

Okay, that's why I wanted to post it on here... NOW I feel better. :-)
OMG I haven't played Sims since HS. I skipped Sims 2 and MAN am I LOVING Sims 3... I really want to get the expansion packs now, but I have GOT to get a memory upgrade first. I love that you can have a car or a bike...
And, yes, I use cheat codes... I'm going to have a ghost baby!

the wording is definitely iffy; maybe you could just mention it to them in an email. other vegetarians who play sims know the game better, as i've never played, but upon reading that sentence, i at first interpreted it the same way you did, scruffleapguagejskd

I can't believe I didn't start it! I'm so glad I won't be alone in a Sims thread. I have all TS3 packs except for the racing one.

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought of the (less charitable) interpretation, but I can see why it's confusing. Still, it's just an ambiguous antecedent, not a conspiracy.
