It doesn't have to have been published this year or be a critical success. If Shark Vs Train did it for you that's okay!

(Shark Vs Train is a great, read-aloud picture book, by the way. )

Engendering a Nation: A Feminist Account of Shakespeare's English Histories, by Jean Howard and Phyllis Rackin. It's exactly the quality of work I aspire to produce, which inspires me to think/work/try harder.

This will surprise absolutely no one, I'm sure, but it's "all about love" by bell hooks.

That's a tricky one! Farm Sanctuary was a really moving book. I read mostly dumb shiitake though: sci-fi, fantasy. Not as inspiring as it is entertaining.

Even though I am only one chapter in, it's the only book I've read this year. The Dance of Anger.

Shark vs. Train was pretty good. But for pure inspirational quality, I'd have to go with Scaredy Squirrel At Night.

The adult books I read are unfortunately full of failure and despair and existential angst, so no luck there.

Teach like a Champion by Doug Lemov. Out of the nine education philosophy and strategies books I've read, this is the only one I've used stuff from and it's worked wonders!

(everything else I read is laurell K Hamilton or Charlaine Harris trash stuff...)

A Thousand Sisters by Lisa Shannon. She really threw herself into working for women in the DR Congo, and she's very aware of what it means to be privileged.

Right now I'm listening to Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin on CD in my car.

Also, Sistah Vegan by A. Breeze Harper has some inspiring poems and essays.

I've read a lot of science fiction and fantasy this year, which will not inherently inspirational has inspired me to continue writing.

Definitely keeping an eye on this thread for recommendations!

I liked Shark v. Train. I haven't read anything inspirational this year, just a lot of kids' books (I work in a library) and pregnancy and baby books, and now some juicy crime fiction.

Write Beside Them by Penny Kittle. It's the only writing book that describes how writing workshop works in high school classrooms. It was professionally inspiring.

My book club at school is reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan, which has been spiritually inspiring. It sparked really great conversations.

John Robbins' The New Good Life was personally inspiring. His definitions and explanations of the different spending types were so helpful. My husband and I are completely different financial 'personalities', and this helped us to understand one another. It also helped me put words to what I had been feeling for awhile--that my money (and lack of it) was holding me hostage, but I am not a victim, I have control over my money.

I was against the death penalty before I read the book, but after reading it I felt better informed, more passionate about banning it, and discovered other reasons one might be opposed (e.g. it costs the tax payers more to condemn a person to death then it does to care for a life-sentenced inmate).

Your love for books by Melanie Watt should get you a girl in no time. Have you read Chester? I was also taken with Pigs to the Rescue

Edited just because I could.

Yay!!

I finally finished it today (funnily enough I had been stuck on the section on grieving. It's come in handy) and then started to read it again, because it's just so amazing.

That last chapter, though...could have done without it. In fact, I just skipped it.
