Actually, I think it owes more than I first thought to the first book - it's just that it's only based on one thread of the story.... no Electric Monks, ghosts, Cambridge dons or Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Watching this prompted me to re-read a Dirk Gently story. I went for The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, which I've read less times than Holistic Detective Agency. I'm still sad to this day that Douglas Adams died so young and never finished The Salmon of Doubt.
