I don't know why they're even teasing that Kurt might change schools. Never going to happen, and not just because I would reach through the screen and cut someone.

Time Warp was fun but not as good as it could have been. Very low energy, it seems. And I did not like Tina's voice this entire episode. Sounding sandpaper-y, powdery. You know what I mean.

It was super shitty but unfortunately not surprising. Fox's idea of what's "diverse" and "progressive" is entirely surface-level. They'll be "edgy" as long as it's inoffensive to the sensibilities of the masses. It's cool for Brittany and Santana to make scissoring jokes (or for Lea Michelle to do crotch-shots in a magazine photoshoot) but god forbid they let one of the kids dress in drag.

It always bothers me that Glee is held out as so progressive. So many newspapers talked about how being gay isn't stigmatized any longer and pointed to Glee as evidence after Tyler Clementi's suicide. But really what Glee shows is that if you are identified as gay (whether you are out or not) you will be subjected to bullying and physical abuse (dumpstering and slushies), but its okay because you're an amazing person.

The transphobia sucks. Choirqueer, I loved what you said on FB. <3 <3 <3 to you. You're a great person, and super eloquent and generous to share your views with those of us who are cis-gendered and privileged and for whom bigotry and discrimination isn't part of our everyday awareness. As a woman of color, I know that every day when I am in public I am aware of my race.

The Bilerico Project had this to say: http://www.bilerico.com/2010/10/glee_ch ... ad_wor.php

Yeah, I've never understood the "Glee is a bastion of diversity!" thing. How? Yes, they've got characters of several races and sexual orientations, but in terms of storylines it's about as mainstream as you can get. We all love Kurt, and I love the way Kurt/Burt has been portrayed, but even Burt told him that if he wants to be openly gay then he's going to have to get used to being isolated and persecuted. How progressive is that?

I mean, I love the show and all, but the media makes it out to be something that it's just not.

Next they'll have Mercedes disappear for bariatric surgery and come back with Brandy in the role....

I guess one positive is that Mercedes, who never gets any action, was playing an overtly sexual character?

I think it would have been better with a guy, but I did like Amber's performance. Not from a meta standpoint. From a "that was a fun performance" standpoint.

I did like her performance, problematic issues aside. She looked fierce and sounded awesome.

I love that Mercedes is, for the most part, unabashedly confident. I'd love it more if they gave the poor girl a love interest who isn't a) gay or b) using her.

I guess if I were going to stop watching the show if it offended me, I would have stopped watching a long time ago.

I've never seen Rocky Horror (I know!) and this episode left me seriously underwhelmed. I liked Mercedes' number and Time Warp wasn't bad, but there were too many things that bothered or bored me.

I did like the whole boys having body issues thing. I was not expecting Cory to look like that under his shirt at all!

I really hope that the Frank N Furter character was portrayed by Mercedes to add an original touch and it wasn't some Fox censoring bullshiitake. But that's probably wishful thinking. I didn't like the tranny line. I'm thinking Ryan Murphy probably just saw it as light and not intentionally hurtful, but it was completely unnecessary.

So glad Puck is back next week. So very glad.

Ok, now can I say that it sucked? There are things that keep me coming back to Glee, but less and less it's the songs. The flat, soul-less auto-tuned version of Rocky Horror was just dull as hell.

John Stamos was supposedly all set to play Frank, but the Fox bureaucrats nixed the idea.
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/21/glee- ... -n-furter/

John Stamos wrote:
While speaking with EW last month about his recurring role on Glee, Stamos said of the Rocky Horror episode, “I was supposed to be doing ‘Sweet Transvestite,’ but I think the network saw the script and was like, ‘Stamos in fish nets? It’s too soon!’” Stamos chuckles. “So they switched it up. I was bummed, because I wanted to play that part.” Indeed, if this leaked demo is to be believed, Stamos even recorded a version of the song. (You can check out Riley’s version of the song on iTunes, although the bad doctor’s hometown is now apparently “Sensational, Transylvania,” instead of “Transsexual, Transylvania.” Because Glee is always so chaste.) Fox has no comment.

The leaked demo was taken offline.

But it does seem to have raised awareness of the original RHP, and I've seen more people looking to go to shows (we have a Zombie RHP on 10/30, which I am sad to be missing). A very thin silver lining, but at least something.

I'm so bummed that Stamos in fishnets was proposed and then nixed. That would have been amazing!

I thought it was alright over all. I mean it is what it is, and what it is is a Fox show. I understand that people want more limits pushed, and I agree, but ultimately I recognize these networks aren't in the business of being progressive, they're in the business of making money. It sucks, because on the one hand I feel like I should be expecting more but I also expect absolutely nothing because it is Fox.

Also, Will makes me want to punch him in the face lately...

Okay that is super duper enraging because they've done some completely out of line things as far as student/teacher relationships go. Plus, I was thoroughly disturbed by Brittany and Santana getting turned on by Emma rubbing all over Will's chest pubes. It's perfectly fine to have them make that scissoring comment (which was hilarious and I love), but a man in fishnets is too much? Seriously?! What the forkity fork fork?

Also, Fox not being pissed about that GQ photoshoot just adds to my extreme dislike of this situation.
