Yes, I know this is over 2 months late, but every year I try catch up on all the must-see movies I may have missed from the previous year. I got most of the big blockbusters under my belt (save Twilight) so now I'm trying to figure out what smaller, independent films I might have missed. So, PPK? Which were your favorites? Indie films appreciated! I think my favorites of 2012 were (in no particular order) Cabin in the Woods, Avengers and Moonrise Kingdom.

The only indie I can think of that I saw was Safety Not Guaranteed, and I wish I had liked it more... it has a great premise and I like a lot of the actors in it. I know there were more, but nothing that's really standing out to me.

My favorites were probably Life of Pi and Wreck-It Ralph.

I really liked Perks of Being A Wallflower! I had braced myself for the worst and was pleasantly surprised.

thinking about this has made me realize that i saw almost no movies last year. god, i'm so lame.

i loved the master so much. so, so, so much. i really liked beauty is embarrassing, but i was already in love with wayne white, so that was sort of a given.

same here, from the previews it looked like the type of movie I would typically hate, but I was forced to see it and actually quite liked it.

Cabin in the Woods was probably my favorite of 2012, but i don't see that many movies.

I loved the crepe out of Wreck-It Ralph, but I'm apparently its target demographic.

I also loved Cabin in the Woods and Moonrise Kingdom, but for very different reasons.

Excellent! This is pretty much the only one I want to see out of the Oscar favorites. I keep looking for it on my on-demand but it doesn't seem to have come out yet. Soon! (I hope?)

shiitake, I dunno. Wreck-it Ralph, I guess.

Safety Not Guaranteed wins for most disappointing, Looper for most over-praised.

fair warning: i couldn't talk anyone into seeing it with me, and i've heard only one other person talk about it with as much blissed-out enthusiasm as i do. i definitely think you should watch it. but if you come back and you're all, "what the hell, acr, that was bollocks," imma be all, "listen, i said i was an outlier."

Oh yeah, I really enjoyed Safety Not Guaranteed, too. Master, Wallflower and Beauty is Embarassing are all going to the top of my NF queue. I wanted to see Wreck-It-Ralph when it was is theaters, but it's hard to get me to watch kids movies outside of Miyazaki and Jim Henson. And I'm going to throw this out there: I really liked John Carter. Harters gonna hate. I wish we had more sci-fi.

Next year is going to be wall-to-wall sci fi.

However!

Most of it looks terrible.

I think I'm an outlier, too. I have off-kilter taste so if it's strange, bizzare and no one knows what the hell's going on, chances are I'll know EXACTLY what the hell's going on. If it follows the so-called normal course of life and train of thought, I'll yawn, on the other hand.

You know back when people watched American Idol and Paula Abdul was a judge and apparently no one knew what she was talking about more than half the time? I ALWAYS knew what she was talking about, could always follow her train of thought.

I wanna see Wreck It Ralph! That's on my on-demand thingie and I'll probably watch it within the next couple of weekends.

This! Totally surprised by this movie and then I kicked myself for not reading it.

I didn't really see any movies last year. But I did see Savages and thought it was well worth watching. Not really Indie but it didn't get very much hype either.

I liked it too! I think it was overhyped and suffered as a result, but in general? It was quite cool. I wish it had done well enough to spawn a franchise.
