The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - It was really silly, but also really funny. I love Steve Carell.

I missed this one and hadn't heard a review from anyone I knew! Good to know. It seems like something I'd like.

Watched 'August: Osage County' screener yesterday. Nothing could ever match the brilliance of the play, but it's pretty close. Dayum. I would not be upset if Meryl Streep won another Oscar for this (but she won't). But actually, same for Julia Roberts. She was amazing in it.

I'm up to Goldfinger. I'll get pizza and wine for Thunderball--always one of my favorites.

I tried to watch Before Midnight the other night and had to shut it off. I found it incredibly boring and the characters annoying. I really enjoyed the first two movies, but this one I just didn't like. So instead I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

^ I can understand that. It was a little 'tired' but I did still love it anyway. I feel like I am hanging out with those two and I really enjoy it, even as they bicker. I find them endlessly intersting.

"Her" -- so so so interesting! Really liked it.

I'm trying to write mini reviews of all the awardsy movies for my blog but it is going to take about 3 years to finish at the rate I'm going. I've seen a lot of movies. P.S., if I had to vote for Best Picture, it would be Frozen. HEHEH.

The Big Sleep. Fun dialogue at times and Bogie and Bacall sizzle, that and Bogie is charming all the ladies he meets practically...

"Labor Day" (with Kate Winslet). Really surprisingly good.

We've been watching some MSTK on netflix. I highly, highly recommend Werewolf. Pod people was pretty good. We are thinking of watching (uncommented) Troll 2 next week sometime. Although there is a rifftrax available for it.

Has anyone seen The Master? I'm curious after reading the JAnet Reitman book on Scientology. Plus, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix...

i've seen it! i love it! but the scientology aspect is sort of background noise (well, it felt that way to me). i don't know enough about scientology to know whether the details employed in the movie are rooted in fact, but the story and the acting and everything are just so good.

^^just to clarify, i mean the specific details of the belief system are background noise in that they could be changed without a huge effect on the outcome. the plot needs a group that calls for tightly controlled adherence and conformity, but probably other things could have been used equally well. and i don't really know whether anything in the movie is anything like scientology; i just heard everyone in the world make that association after the movie came out.

Trek Nation - Eugene Rodenberry looking at his father's legacy and what Star Trek means to fans and the people who worked with him/on the various series. It was really good and, once again, made me want to watch the original series. I think that might be my winter holiday activity.

Overall, I felt the plot was lacking something I couldn't put my finger on, but Joaquin was riveting in this. Just an amazing performance, incredibly intense.

i just saw it! i liked it a lot. it was everything i expect from david russell, and it was way funnier than i'd thought it would be.

AND, before American Hustle i saw a trailer for The Grand Budapest Hotel, and it made me so excited and frustrated about not being able to watch it RIGHT NOW that i almost cried. i can't believe how bad i want to watch that movie! it's killing me!

Me too! I can't wait, it looks so excellent. Might actually be able to get Mr Moon in a theatre for that one. He loves Wes Anderson too.
