I happened to watch 'Revolutionary Road' the other night. Great cast - love Leo, Kate, Kathy Bathes, Michael Shannon. But man, what a depressing story. Not sure I'd watch this one again. Kate Winslet is a favorite of mine, loved her in 'The Reader'.

I finally watched Catching Fire. I loved how close to the book it was.

Sassypants - I did not like the prop styling, the characters were bland, then ending was okay though.

Just finished the BBC series The Fall (first series, second one is apparently coming soon), and I watched it in a day, so it counts as a movie. Amazeballs, seriously.

Frozen -
meh, some of the songs were ok but some were outright bad. I also didn't see the 'strong independent female' thing. She falls for two guys in a matter of minutes, immediately after going out into the world for the first time in many years. How about growing as an individual first before you decide to get married. Come on! (I know, it's only a movie). disappointing.

Draft Day -
I loved all the strategizing about the picks, any football talk really.
pretty darn good.

I totally agree on Frozen! I was kinda proud that my 6y0 daughter didn't like it much either and she wanted to watch Brave instead :)

Just got back from a long trip where I had many, many hours to watch movies. Got to see a bunch of new release movies. Here is a quick note on each:

Hunger Games Catching Fire - I thought this was pretty good. Felt it stuck to the book closely and if you didn't read the book, you still have a very good idea what its about. I read all the books and didn't care for the first movie, I thought it felt rushed and just missed many things from the book. Then again, book to movie adaptations rarely impress me. I was surprised on this one, it was much better than the first movie. Folks I was travelling with really enjoyed this one and they did not read the book, nor see the first film.

The Wolf of Wall Street - What was Scorsese thinking? Don't get me wrong, I liked the film. It was a crazy 2 hrs and some minutes complete out of control party full of debauchery. I found the story interesting and really couldn't wait to see his world come crashing down. But totally not something I'd expect from Scorsese. I would suggest to see this film once....and that is enough.

American Hustle - OMG I really wish I had back that time I wasted on this one. It was horribly boring. I can't believe all the praise this one got, it was just BORING! Don't waste your time on this one. I know others have commented on this indicating the same thing on this thread. But it was really one of those 'you have to see it for yourself to believe it' things. Though I wish I picked another movie to watch than this one.

The Hobbit #2 - I can't remember the full title on this one. This was probably my favorite of all the movies I watched. Though I'm a huge LOTRs fan and loved all those movies. I saw the Hobbit #1 and liked it and this one also did not disappoint. When I heard that they were making this beloved book into multiple movies I wondered how they would pull it off and really wasn't holding much hope. But overall I have to say they are wonderfully entertaining films. I liked this so much I started watching it a 2nd time.

Saving Mr. Banks - Loved this one too. Emma Thompson was great in this role. Its a feel good movie and really very interesting story behind the author of the book and how the movie came out. Heck, now I want to watch the Mary Poppins movie again. Not sure if this was marketed as a 'family movie' but I don't see this one for children. But such a heart-warming tale and very happy I got to see this.

Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom - This was such a good movie. I learned so much on this history of Mandela and Africa. At times it was difficult to watch due to all the horrible things that happened in Africa. Though that can be said about most movies that deal with conflict/genocide in Africa. The main actor (whose name escapes me now) did an amazing job. His accent was a little off-putting at first, but after awhile I forgot about it. I can imagine he was a very close contender for the Oscar for this movie.

That was it. I filled the rest of my time on the plane with watching recaps of 'Big Bang Theory' cause that show is awesome and needed a laugh.

Journey to the center of the earth

Outright cheesy CGI effects but got a couple of chuckles with Brendan Fraser's character

Watched a later remake of Evil Dead, I finished it, but I decided I just can't watch these sorts of films anymore, they make me feel very unpleasant, I think I'm done with this genre for the rest of my life, I must be getting old! ;)

'Beautiful Darling', a doc about Candy Darling and Warhol's Factory.
I am taking a MOOC on Warhol and this was a good companion to the readings.
Rather sad story.

The Match Factory Girl 1990 - Finnish movie. So excellent! Minimal dialogue, the story is ridiculous and is the blackest black of black bleak comedy. You won't laugh once, though. But when you see cliche piled upon cliche in the story, you'll see what I mean by ridiculous and black comedy. Wonderful movie though. To think I was drawn to this only because it was one hour and twelve minutes long and I was in the mood for a short film before going to bed Friday night. So well done. A very nice hour-and-a-quarter watching it, well spent.

I finished Blue is the Warmest Color. I feel kinda 'meh' about it. It took me three days of on & off watching to get through it. I felt that if it captured my attention enough I could have got through it in one go. I liked the realness of it - how raw it felt but it was just really slow.

^Sorry you didn't like it more.
The three hours went by very fast for me, I was just so invested in the story. But I certainly understand what you mean about the pace.

The Book Thief.
B minus, otherwise known as 'meh.

I'm guessing the book explored more about her being a book thief but the movie showed one short scene with her going into the house twice to get books; other than that, taking one from the bonfire and.....?
The title just doesn't seem central to the story. Yes, she loved books and loved to read but I would hardly call her a thief. I didn't love it.

Ya - the book is better, you see friendship and also more sadness.

Fruitvale Station. It was good, the last 15-20 minutes are powerful stuff, but the rest of his day was very slow-paced.
