I'm somewhat surprised we don't have a Night Vale thread yet!

http://commonplacebooks.com/welcome-to-night-vale/

I'm a year behind, so I just finished The Phone Call, which is probably my favorite in a while. It played on my irrational fear of unexplained things happening during phone calls. Want to weird me out? Call me from an unknown number and leave me weird voice mails. Also, the song played during the weather was better than usual.

Has anyone been to one of their live shows yet?

I was waffling about going to the Detroit show, but it selling out made the decision for me. Favorite weather is either from Glow Cloud ("Waitin' for the bus in the rain, in the rain…") or The Deft Bowman.

I love how even on a purely audio medium with a small cast, the town is populated with a diverse and colorful cast of characters. (I can't wait until you meet Tamika Flynn!)

I am way far behind, but I went to see it a few months ago in ny and gave jeffrey cranor some cookies and he was stoked they were vegan. It was surprisingly good live for how little action is happening. I skip most of the weather.

Brian,
Toby has listened to all of the episodes- twice. He said his favorite episode is "The Sandstorm."

I am also way behind but definitely enjoy listening to it. Not sure which one I'm on yet though.

I just listened to Poetry Week... We listened to a bunch of them on the way to and from Oregon in December, but now that we're home we don't do enough long-distance drives (that is, over 25 minutes of highway)...

MBM isn't into it, but we don't go on many long car rides either. I've been listening to them at work to fill in for other weekly podcasts I listen to.

I just started listening to this last Tuesday and love it. I've only listened to the first four so far as I'm trying not to do any without my GF, so when I've introduced other friends I've replayed the same ones. I usually get annoyed listening to or watching the same things over and over again but I have no problem with this; it's no wonder it was the top podcast for a while (still is?).

I had no idea they did live shows, I'm definitely going to look for that.

I just started to listen to these, my favourite so far is Wheat and Wheat By Products. I really want a mug from the Topatoco store (and a "just pour it in my mouth" mug from the Scarygoround store while I'm at it!) but the shipping is terribly expensive. Maybe I'll get it as a birthday treat for next year!

I'm way behind, but I love Nightvale! My favourite episode is Faceless Old Woman, I just love Mara Wilson's voice acting.

I started listening to this yesterday because of this thread and LOVE it! I'm only only episode 6 or 7, but I'm totally hooked.

I just started catching up recently, as well. I have no idea why it took me this long to get on the Night Vale train. I've told people it's like Twin Peaks written by H.P. Lovecraft and set in the desert. With some X Files thrown in there, too. I love how ridiculously crushed out Cecil is on Carlos the Scientist. And I love that there's a same-sex relationship leading the show and nobody makes a big deal about it, it just is.

I used to LOVE it. My old housemate and I once went to a comiccon in Nightvale cosplay.

I... think it peaked some time ago, for me, anyway. It's almost gotten a bit too much like a soap opera lately. The less we knew, the more surprises there were. I feel like the most recent ones are just continuity nods and, of course, the weather. If you compare the earlier ones where the non-Cecil characters are just briefly talked about at very irregular intervals and the more recent ones where they get constant updates and long sections to themselves, I think there's a definite shift in feel. It has moved away from surrealist comedy horror to The Office with actual five-headed dragons.
