Favorite movie: three.

I'm not sure which book is my favorite. One of 4-6. Seven dragged a bit too much for me at times.

Answer to both is 6 for me.

And ditto to sobbing about Dobby. Every time.

I liked the third movie a lot, especially because of the way Alfonso Cuarón's vision of the wizarding world shifted from a quasi-Victorian aesthetic to quasi-medieval one. I wanted to move into the Leaky Cauldron; I mean, look at it!

The best thing about the books is watching JK Rowling grow and develop as a writer over the course of the series; as the themes get darker and more complex, her writing becomes so much more subtle and nuanced. She makes use of everything from the Bible and classical and Norse mythologies to Shakespeare, Milton, Lewis, Tolkien, and beyond, but she does it skillfully, and makes it so much fun, that I'm sure Harry Potter has led many young people to explore further afield, within and outside of the genres she draws on. (This thread is making me want to drop the criticism I'm currently reading and start over from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone!)

The third movie was beautifully done, and it didn't feel like a kid's movie like the first and second did. It seemed to be a lot more thoughtful and significantly darker. That one is probably my second favorite. However, I really liked the adult wizards in the Order of the Phoenix.

I finished it on a flight home from the UK, and tears were just running down my face; I'm sure the cabin crew wondered what on earth was wrong with me!

I cannot wait. I need to buy my tickets! And figure out what tasty treat I'm going to make for DVA!

Spoiler? I thought I heard they split it after Ron came back. I could be misremembering what I heard, though! It was on the MuggleNet podcast interview with their person who got to see the advance screening of it.

Spoiler!
I was worried that they would after Ron ran off and left them. That would be depressing.

Okay, so I just bought the Harry Potter Year 3 Ultimate Edition DVD for $30 dollars because I am one of those sad people who can't resist special features. I am shamefaced.

I think I'm going to book my tickets when I get paid this week.

Also, when I was in Toronto in July I dragged the boyfriend and several of our friends to the Ontario Science Centre to see the Harry Potter exhibit. They had costumes and props from the movies and it was GLORIOUS. AND AND AND there was this bit before they let you in where a fake-British wizard guy sorts three volunteers, who I think are supposed to be kids. But I made such a scene leaping around and demanding to be picked and generally playing up my foreign-ness that he finally chose me and I got to wear the Sorting Hat. I'm an official Ravenclaw!

I really want to go to a midnight screening, but I'm in a show that very night and would have to convince my parents to let me go (LAME).
