http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/28/scien ... ggest.htmlQuote: Benjamin H. Passey, a geochemist at Johns Hopkins University, who conducted the tests determining the high ratio of carbon isotopes indicating a diet mostly of forest foods, explained why the research was important to an understanding of human evolution.
“One thing people probably don’t realize is that humans are basically grass eaters,” Dr. Passey said in a statement. “We eat grass in the form of the grains we use to make breads, noodles, cereals and beers, and we eat animals that eat grass. So when did our addiction to grass begin? At what point in our evolutionary history did we start making use of grasses? We are simply trying to find out where in the human chain that begins.”

In my plants and people class, my teacher constantly referred to us as 'grass seed eaters' which sounds more correct than straight 'grass' eaters.

Apparently there is a type of ape that mostly eats grass. That is so weird to me because I had never heard that before.

I was going for the 'grass on your lawn' type ape and grazes, much like a cow might. I think it might've been a monkey actually though but not sure. I think it was possibly the Barbary Macaque.

I think the grass on my lawn might be a GMO. Anyone have a source for heirloom seeds? Wait, is quinoa a grass? Also, if we get alpacas, will we now be competing for a food source?

Totally unrelated. Last year, my husband dug up a huge dandelion from our yard. I contemplated for quite a few minutes whether or not we should eat it. Our HOA does funny things to our area though so I decided against it.

Mountain Gorillas diets are mostly grass stems and leaves and such because there are not as much fruit for them in their environment. They have to pretty much constantly graze all the time since the grass has such low nutritious value. (yay for reading through my brothers anthropology books when he was at Berkeley)

This reminds me of Mort (sorry for the unveganness) "They don't go in for the fancy or exotic, but stick to conventional food like flightless bird embryos, minced organs in intestine skins, slices of hog flesh and burnt ground grass seeds dipped in animal fats; or, as it is known in their patois, egg, soss and bacon and a fried slice."

Buckwheat is also not a grain. But corn, its been bred from a mexican grass called teosinte. Like how tomato is thought of as a vegetable but its really a fruit!
