I agree honey is problematic for Vegans. I wasn't exactly avoiding it before, I wasn't seeking it out but I wasn't refusing something just because of honey. However, I now avoid it due to my food allergy. I stumbled upon information where the beekeepers feed the bees HFCS and refined sugar. Since I am allergic to corn and corn derivatives, it makes me very happy that Vegan recipes do not include honey.

Yeah, I like bees. I think they're wonderful and useful. Since seeing concrete information about the honey industry being bad for them I'll be extra careful about avoiding honey. And I'll have something to say next time someone is annoyed at my pickiness. The thought of salivary enzymes will hopefully help when something which contains honey seems very appealing.

Also, one of the links someone posted gave information about other products I'd been wondering about. I really should have thought to search for this properly, but thanks!

Yet another reason why I'm happy I no longer eat honey. Everytime I see some article about honey, I think of this thread. I just ran across this article today:

The article discusses that most of the honey available for sale at US grocery stores do not contain pollen. The lack of pollen disguises its origins. According to the article this is problematic as it appears to be a way to sell substandard and/or potentially harmful honey.

That's why I only eat honey that I have personally wrested from the tiny pincers of the filthy filthy insects themselves.

I am careful not to injure any of them as I take the honey so they may savor their defeat.
