Here is a news article about the controversial rainbow creme oreo cookie (which was just a graphic, and not an actual cookie): http://www.latimes.com/business/money/l ... 4912.storyHere is a Tumblr post with snapshots of the angry commenter's opinions on the matter: http://susypaloozie.tumblr.com/post/258 ... rain-tumorI know they are vegan junk food and not all of us go for them, but I can inhale a box of the mint oreos. Also, regardless of whether it's a publicity stunt or not, I love it when mainstream companies support gay rights. As always, unless you want to go through a wild range of emotions, from amusement, to anger, then despair, avoid the comments.

Even if this is ultimately good for Oreo's profits (and of course it is), it's still nice to see public support of gay rights.

Is Kraft food known for being friendly toward queer people, as a company policy? Is this running as anything other than a facebookery ad? I don't have the teevee and miss most if not all mainstream advertising.

Yeah, if Kraft execs had such a problem with it they would have probably made Oreo take the image down by now. Hopefully this inspires more brands, companies etc. to be openly gay friendly.

They also probably know that 90% of the people who are saying they won't eat Oreos anymore are full of shiitake.
I'm just sad because I thought you guys meant they were making rainbow oreos.

I didn't mean that Kraft higher ups would have a problem with the image, I'm sure that was approved. I was wondering if Kraft was a queer friendly company in practice, in general. Are they known for more liberal politics, that sort of thing.
I see a lot of very targeted advertising these days which is made easier by the internet and facebook and youtube videos but I have been wondering how much any of these companies are queer-friendly or tea party friendly based on a few ads online. It seems every week there is some sort of boycott claimed on the internet of X company because of their ad that promotes Y cause that some group doesn't agree with. It's great that companies are willing to do an online ad that shows support of queer rights but I am interested in the intentions; if it is just targeted marketing or if it part of a larger company ethos.

I'm just sad because I thought you guys meant they were making rainbow oreos. Some gay rights advocates have put together an info graphic regarding the unlikelihood of follow-through on threats of boycotting Kraft products. PPKers probably have seen similar graphics, just showing the monopolies in our food systems, but I bet it's shocking to the general public. They'd have to give up their precious Chips Ahoy and Dr. Pepper as well. Also, this was one of the funnier articles about it: http://www.torontolife.com/daily/daily- ... o-brouhaha"Unfortunately, the Interwebs went a little insane over the loud-and-proud sweet, with hundreds of homophobic comments piling up on Kraft’s page, including a call to boycott the brand for its support of gay rights (one more sensible commenter noted he wouldn’t buy this particular cookie because of the absurd amount of stuffing—to which we say, yes, that is a good reason not to buy a cookie). Thirteen hours later, Kraft pulled the picture down, along with the thread of bigoted remarks. Undeterred, other gay-positive, cookie-affirming, soon-to-be-diabetic Internet crazies have started an online petition demanding the company produce the real thing." Heh.

Kraft apparently offers domestic partner benefits. I believe they have supported the Gay Games in Chicago and did not back down when the American Family Association called for a boycott. Hilariously enough, the Southern Baptist Convention steered me to a list Human Rights Campaign maintains of "evuhl gay friendly companies!" http://www.hrc.org/apps/buyersguide/index.phpSo, according to HRC, Kraft Foods...gets a 100! Non-discrimination policy includes sexual orientation Non-discrimination policy includes gender identity and/or expression Company-provided domestic partner health insurance (including parity in spousal and partner COBRA, dental, vision and domestic partners legal dependent coverage) Parity in spousal/partner soft benefits (bereavement leave; supplemental life insurance; relocation assistance; adoption assistance; joint/survivor annuity; pre-retirement survivor annuity; retiree healthcare benefits; employee discounts) Offers equal health coverage for transgender individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care Organizational LGBT cultural competency (diversity trainings, resources or accountability measures) Company-supported LGBT employee resource group or firm-wide diversity council that includes LGBT issues, OR would support a LGBT employee resource group with company resources if employees expressed an interest Engages in appropriate and respectful advertising and marketing or sponsors LGBT community events, organizations, or legislative efforts

Guys, really? YOU GET SIX TIMES AS MUCH FILLING. It's like sexy, rainbow sextuple-stuffed oreos. Who is arguing against this?
Although, if they do decide to actually make these oreos, I think there needs to be some edible glitter involved.

I haven't bought any Oreos in a long time, but I'd eat six Oreos with assorted rainbow fillings, but I'd kind of want them to be fruit flavored. Or some Oreos with a reasonable amount of filling that had little rainbows in the filling. I also seriously doubt any of those people will really boycott craft. I'm glad to hear that they treat their employees so well.

I'm just sad because I thought you guys meant they were making rainbow oreos. But they are full of creamy shiitake on the inside sandwiched between chocolaty people on the outside, right? Hmm, that doesn't sound right now. Anyway, I also am just sad now. I was so excited because I thought I knew exactly what to bring to 4th of July fire works to make everyone happy. I guess it's back to chocolate hummus with strawberries and Biscoff for dipping.

I approve - especially of the company's HR policy. (I already approve a lot, but I would approve even more if these cookies actually existed. Especially with glitter.)
