Such a great first step. I remember being so indignant about the situation regarding abortion in Northern Ireland as a feminist teenager when I found out about it! I can't believe that douchebag attorney general still has a job though.

Just became my (volunteer) org's rep to UN Women and their working group on gender equality. Reading the wg's founding docs, I am pleased to see statements like "provide more opportunities to include young women" across the board in UNw and UN activities (and UNx-sanctioned activities), as well as statements like "provide support and opportunities for people who identify outside of the gender binary".

It's incredibly gratifying to see that Daniel Holtzclaw was convicted of rape. Not only is he a cop, not only were all of his victims women of color, but it was an all-white jury. Based on what we're used to seeing in America, this could have been an easy acquittal. And yet justice was actually served.

A trans Girl Scout had a bad encounter with a bigoted neighbour, but after going public with her story has sold over 3000 boxes of cookies: http://www.buzzfeed.com/leticiamiranda/ ... .luXo0AJ3o

I may have noted that she sells the vegan thin mints and I *may* have ordered six boxes. What doesn't kill me will only put me in a diabetic coma.

I ordered 4 to donate because I can't stand to pay shipping, plus I would've just sent them to my husband's work. I hope she has received many, many more thousands of orders.

Chair of a fancy pants committee I'm currently sitting on said (responding to a question from the committee): "It's up to the committee to decide, but in my experience, most official contributions will come from men, so it's ok if more than 2/3 of 'ours' come from women."

I'm loving the periods for pence campaign on twitter. Apparently the governor's office has directed all phone calls to voice mail because so many women are phoning in.

Ha! That reminded me of this MRA meme I saw today on We Hunted the Mammoth:

I laughed soooo hard at that. Yup, that's us lazy women, faffing about in fields all day long, ALL OF US.

Especially when we're on our periods, according to commercials. We're either laying around in fields of flowers or skipping on the beach.

Dressed in diaphanous white garments. Because obviously.

The way that Chuck Tingle is trolling Vox Day & the other rabid puppies so, so hard. I love that if Tingle wins the Hugo (which is so unlikely to happen) he'll have Zoe Quinn accept on his behalf. https://boingboing.net/2016/05/06/weird-porn-author-who-was-drag.html

It's a few months old, but I found this article about how the burden of de-escalating sexism lies on women really affirming. Not because it's about a frustrating topic (because ARGH SO FRUSTRATING), but because it's just validating to hear other women vocalize these experiences, responses, and feelings. So much of dealing with sexism is inarticulable lizard-brain rage/pain/fear, so have an intelligent, articulate lady spell it out for me is immensely relieving.

VP Biden wrote an eloquent letter to Brock's victim. I would have changed two words (claim to equal dignity --> right to equal dignity; license to rape --> something else entirely), but apart from that it is amazing: http://www.motherjones.com/media/2016/0 ... al-assault

Could not decide which of the feminism threads to post this link in, and decided on here since the piece is about a woman who is doing a lot of good work, making feminism and the everyday objectification of women visible on a fairly large scale: http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/fea ... m-20160705
