I like the idea of not participating in the Black Friday sale hype. I've made a resolution to never participate in a doorbuster or power-hour promotion. Not hard, I don't shop that way anyway.

However, there is a juried art fair at our Fairgrounds that weekend, and I'm all for supporting those folks. Heck, I used to be one of them, and plan to get back to it soon.

yes, I like that idea. I don't shop at malls or big box stores on Black Friday but would gladly support small, independent businesses.

Man I always fork it up. I buy nothing many days, but on BND I always need something pretty damn crucial like...say...a sandwich. But I share JoPa's snark for adbusters, so whatevs.

It's a good idea though! Especially for people rich enough to buy something every day normally!

Also, Black Friday is not a thing in Canada. Which makes it kind of weird that the (Vancouver-based) adbusters is behind it.

I don't think I ever buy anything on black friday. I like to spend the day at home in my pajamas eating leftovers and stay as far away from the frenzied shopping mobs as I can.

I won't be buying anything, but that's because I'll be working (as a cashier) from 6am-1pm and after that I'm going to go home and sleep for the rest of the afternoon.

I plan to buy a TV, DVD player, ipod, camcorder, camera and possibly a computer on Friday.

Ok not really. You couldn't get me anywhere close to a store on Friday. I hate people, I hate crowds.

I still kind of giggle when thinking about someone who told me they stood in line for hours to get a deal on an HD DVD player and they were so proud until the month after that manufacturers said they would no longer be supporting HD and would be shifting to Blue-ray exclusively.

I have lots of buy nothing days, but will probably be going to the Rock 'n Roll Craft Show to browse and possibly buy goods from local artists and crafters on that particular one.

I certainly won't be buying anything from a big store but I'm going to be buying a My Zoetrope calendar & some stuff from Vegan Essentials - things I couldn't really justify without the discount code!

i'm celebrating! black friday is the worst, in all sorts of ways.
last year my friend dragged me to target at 4am with her to stand in line and then fight the crowds for stuff - it was pathetic, seriously, i hated every minute of it. and then we went to best buy. god, it was the worst. what a horrible idea. it made me so sad seeing all those people rushing around for TVs and dish sets...was it ever depressing. i mean i hate the idea of it it in general, it turns the world into walmart for a day, but...UGH

Years of working in clothing retail made me hate Black Friday with such passion. I don't even want to leave the house today.

Yeah there is no way I would brave the crowds on black friday, but the internet always suckers me in! We just got a new tv on amazon. What can I say.... it was a good deal and it'll be nice to get rid of the old clunker we have now. I'd rather just buy nothing the rest of the year when everything is too expensive for me anyway.

I already bought things today, but i wasn't trying not to. i mean, obviously I'm not going to a store, but Calcy reminded me about ordering a coat and i ended up getting some shoes too. and none of it was on sale! damn!

Last year I did buy nothing day because I had to write a little paper about it for school. It was harder than I expected. I went over to a friend's house and had to bring my own food and eat it before everyone else went out for dinner and then just had water at the restaurant.

I caved. I bought online. No waiting in stores for me!
(like that's somehow better? Oh, but it is! I didn't bother those hard, overworked folks that have to work insane hours today!)

Yes, I too am having a do nothing day. I might finally leave my apartment to get coffee in a minute or two, but won't really be capital "S" Shopping.

Okay, well I ended up buying all my gifts today. But from almost all small, independent businesses. And today is the day I had time. So.

I went out to lunch, so I guess I failed. I came back home and got back into my pajamas though, so in that sense I succeeded!

I bought nothing. I ate pie for breakfast, watched TV all morning, ate leftovers for lunch, graded papers, and then played Trivial Pursuit with my dad. My sister went to the mall, though.

I bought a few items at independently owned businesses today, and took a good walk around the neighborhood.

No big stores for me today.
