It seems that a farm in Lincolnshire is keeping beef cattle at extremely high density, on barren ground with inadequate shelter. This is hidden from public view by a wall of straw bales.
There are now plans to expand the operation.
Obviously the cattle kept in this system are suffering even more than other cattle given more space and grassy fields (at least during the summer). The high densities and poor conditions will make it much easier for disease to spread. And local residents are already complaining about the smell.
The petition calls the local council, East Lindsey District Council, "to conduct a thorough investigation of the Louth feedlot and proposed expansion plans." Hopefully they will then stop the expansion and demand a slightly less damaging way of keeping the cattle.
