It supports what the real scientists thought, as well as my previously made decision to never go through one of the machines.

Thank you for this. I am definitely was to avoid it as well.

What got me initially was the claim that it "meets" safety standards. I am always looking for "exceeds" standards.

Goodness, and I'm flying to SFO tomorrow, too. I hope the Dutch don't make me walk through one of those, nevermind the Americans! I guess I can report back to you all about the invasively invasive body searches in January... =/

while we may not be very happy with our TSOs at the moment as the face of these policies, we need to keep in mind that they really should be wearing radiation badges in order to know their specific exposure (especially for those officers who may also have to receive radiation exposure for medical reasons).

scary shiitake.
we went through them "experimentally" somewhere in July and the machine didn't work and i had to stay in there for a surprisingly long time. it didn't occur to me to be freaked out by it. the good thing was that because it didn't work we were sent to pat-down and my kid didn't get blasted.

They had one of these at Dulles when we were there earlier this year. We found out that the easy way to avoid having to go through them is to enthusiastically volunteer to do it- we'd seen these things on the news but never in real life, and Boyfriend asked the TSA guys if he could go through it just to be able to tell everyone back home that he did. They didn't seem pleased, and they quickly assessed that we were just idiots and not real threats, so they banished us to the 'normal' scanner line.

The Dutch have them, too, but only at the boarding area for US-bound flights. I asked all of the security officers I could if I could have the pat down instead. They made faces and made me feel like an idiot, but they did the pat down (barely a pat down!) without too much fuss. Later, I watched other people go through the machines and noticed that almost everyone had to have a pat down after the scan, and that most of the scans returned 'red' not 'green'.

Also, it made me realize that in 2007 when I flew to the UK on a one-way ticket and was put through a "special" random security line for other people with one-way tickets, I had one of the micro-mm scans. I wish they had told me what it was! Instead, it was presented as "the only option". (Jerks.)

OPT OUT! OPT OUT!
You can choose being groped over getting blasted with rays and having naked photos taken. Which is... oh, crepe. It's terrible either way.

This shiitake has to stop. It's slave-training. It's conditioning. It's dehumanizing. It's only the beginning unless we stop being complacent about it.

i do a lot of traveling, and I have yet to see an airport that has these machines in every security line..so just look ahead and choose the line without the cancer machine..or opt out

you still have some control over it....for now

I thought I'd get scanned going through LA, but it never panned out

I'm opting out like a mother hubbard though. the less radiation at this point in my life, the better.. I've had much more than a lifetime's worth already, haha
