Its really sad to hear that Elizabeth Edward's cancer has now progressed to the point that medical interventions are no longer useful and she has stopped treatment. She is not expected to live for more than a few more months. http://thinkprogress.org/2010/12/07/elizabeth-legacy/http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... -/1?csp=hfNo matter what happened around the campaign and her husband's affair with Rielle Hunter, she remained committed to health care and other issues, and always seemed like a warm and intelligent woman.

You're right eight. Its so very sad, especially for her family and the children she leaves behind. Rest in peace. http://www.frumforum.com/elizabeth-edwards-dies

That is so sad. She was a truly inspiration, resilient woman. I read an article about her and she talked about buying christmas gifts for the children of the woman her husband left her for.

I'm really sad. She seemed like a really nice person and it's tough enough to go through what she did in private, I can't imagine having the whole world know. <3

Sending prayers to her children. Not forgetting what a creep her husband was, but for right now we need to send positivity to her children.
It is what she would have wanted.

Her poor children. I hope she is at peace now.
I wonder if that creep will go to her funeral.

I cannot even begin to image all that she has been through these last few years. I hope now she is getting the peace she deserves.

You have to admire the dignity with which she handled a situation that would have turned most people (myself included) into a screaming harpy, even if they were in perfect health; the fact that she did so while battling a terminal illness is something her children can always look to with pride. May she rest in peace, and may they find comfort in the time ahead (and may their father finally grow the fork up and try setting some sort of positive example).

I was away from the computer all day and was sorry to come home to the news.
In my mind she epitomized "Grace Under Pressure".

She was so young. 61 is so young to die, and she had spent the last 6 years battling this disease. It is so sad. I know its stupid, but at least she died with her family around her and with the medical care she got, I hope they were able to make sure she didn't suffer any more than she had to when she was going.
I am so sorry for her children, because the holidays are going to be so sad for them from now on, and that just seems really harsh.
And I'm sure John Edwards will be at the funeral to support his children. I just hope that their daughter Cate can raise the children and they don't end up with Rielle.

I know it; there's never a good time to lose a parent, but this seems particularly rough, especially considering everything they've already been through. Tofulish wrote: And I'm sure John Edwards will be at the funeral to support his children. I just hope that their daughter Cate can raise the children and they don't end up with Rielle. This is just what I said. When I think of that poor woman, having to ready herself and her young children for this final separation, it's just so heartbreaking. The spectre of that gold-digging attention hors d'oeuvre lurking in the background (sorry, not a big "Rielle" fan) just seems like adding gratuitous insult to injury. JE has to do right by that poor child, but I'm hoping he'll realize what a disaster it will be for all concerned if he doesn't disassociate himself from the mother.

We in the UK have very little idea who she is, but that does sound a very charitable act. PS I liked the name Buddhist Cupcake!

And now, the day after, we learn that Aretha Franklin has pancreatic cancer.
UGH.
I don't have the words to adequately express my despair.
