http://www.revelife.com/731292661/does- ... 1517834137Although I really don't want to get into the abortion debate as such, surely nearly everyone, whatever their views on abortion, can agree that not eating animal products is much easier than being pregnant and giving birth.

There is so much wrong with the person's argument that approaching it from a logical point of view is almost useless.

Yeah and I don't understand why the ease of pregnancy or veganism is being compared? Let's just call this even.

IsaChandra wrote: Yeah and I don't understand why the ease of pregnancy or veganism is being compared? Let's just call this even. I suppose it's me doing the comparing. Basically, the woman has explained that she is a Christian and against abortion. But she eats meat because animals have no souls and no responsibilities. Humans immortal, animals mortal, God says so. I would have thought that if we thought we were immortal, we would have to be especially careful with to make the lives of mortal creatures happy, and to ensure the longevity of said happy lives. Rather than cutting them short. And, whilst I have a little sympathy with people who eat meat because they just want to get on with their lives without doing much thinking or changing, the woman who wrote the piece has admitted that she expects pregnant women to respect foetal life by continuing with difficult pregnancies, yet she sees no need to respect animals' lives. Her utter naivety about animal farming is ... weird, it's as if she relies on a children's book for "facts". And by children, I mean the under-5s.

Animals are just furry objects. Why respect them?

This is completely wrong. The author obviously knows nothing of animal agriculture and makes no solid case for eating them. Because they have no souls? Really? If I was to sell my soul to someone, would it then be ok for you to murder and eat me? I bet the "But he had NO SOUL!" defense holds up very well in the eyes of the law and God.

This:
"But the dairy products that vegans avoid do not hurt the animal to manufacture. Cows need to be milked. Drinking milk and manufacturing cheese does not cause any harm to animals."
makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

makes me want to bang my head against a wall. Please don't bang your head against a wall! I would feel guilty if my having mentioned this caused you to do that! But it is a shockingly ignorant claim from a woman who thinks of herself as a theorist and who is doing a Master's degree. Clearly, her wish to avoid vegans (refusing to cook for them) has led her to ignore anything vegans have tried to tell her.

people always tell me that it's funny that i'm pro-choice (pro-"killing") but against eating animals (anti-killing).
they are very different debates.

I like this blog post for so many reasons. First, " It would be absurd to look demandingly at Fido and say, "It was wrong to dig up the petunias and bite the cat. Why did you do it?" "
Have you ever yelled at a dog? Not that I advocate that by any means, but if you were like, DOG! What the fork? That dog is going to hang his poor little head and look sad. A dog may not know that something is WRONG or be able to explain it, but I think there are things dogs can learn that they should and should not do. (Insert 'cow' anywhere I've said dog, and I'm pretty sure it'd be the same; although, I don't have much experience with cows.)
Second, "Because animals don't have immortal souls, they don't have the same inherent dignity that ascribes to them human rights. Thus it is not immoral to eat meat or animal products. (This is not a justification for animal cruelty. Such violent and abusive behavior would be wrong in and of itself." You know what's really violent? Killing stuff.
EDIT: Also, I've known animals far more dignified than a lot of people, but that doesn't mean I'm going to eat those people.
Third, "But lest you think I'm just an animal hater, know this: my family owns six cats and a big, Collie dog. I have volunteered as a foster animal caregiver for the SPCA, and I have an annoying habit of feeding and quasi-adopting pets that belong to my neighbors. It saddens me that animals do not have moral souls and so cannot go to heaven, but that's just life." Her neighbors must not have chickens.

How do any of these people know that animals don't have "souls"? And the argument that is says so in the bible doesn't prove anything, that's just an old book. Nor does saying "God says so" because that has just as much credibility as saying "Santa says so" or "My invisible friend Pinky says so". Sometimes people's logic just baffles me.

I'm pretty sure Pope John Paul II said that animals do go to heaven. And Don Bluth said ALL dogs go to heaven, so there. Also, why would Francis of Assisi bother preaching to the animals otherwise? I don't think the site is fake. There are other articles that look genuine, even one by a vegetarian when I went to the main page today.

makes me want to bang my head against a wall. In one of my jobs I work with someone who was Attorney General in the previous UK government. He rolled this one out quite innocently over lunch after seeing my specially prepared and rather scrummy risotto dish made him curious about veganism. I explained, he understood.
