Wolf Blitzer was just reporting on halloween costumes and in his segment had a pretty significant part about the Bed Intruder guy, Antoine Dobson.
It was just weird to see.. that's all.

I'm not comfortable with the popularity of this guy at all.

Enlighten me.

It's probably horrible of me, but I can't get enough of the song, or the iPhone app that came out of it.

Why is that?

I think the story is great, he's raised enough money through Itunes sales to move out of the projects while raising money for diabetes at the same time. The best part about the internet is that anyone can succeed with it, even if you aren't actually using it. Hopefully he continues to help the community.

I love this song and actually Antoine is a nice guy. He's going to go back to a local community college so he can get the skills to earn more and support his family. Without this song he would probably be stuck in the projects. He got 50% of all the sales from the song.

I think some people were uncomfortable initially because it was seen to be 'making light' of an attempted rape.

At least something positive came out of this incident.

That's how I felt initially. Not with Antoine. I feel like he's just a very flamboyant individual who was rightfully pissed about what happened. When people started passing that interview around like it was funny, it really bugged me. I dunno, but the song is really freaking catchy. Plus, I can get behind the fact that the family got money and was able to change their situation. So I don't think it's a bad thing at all anymore.

I hadn't heard about that guy or the incident or any of it (apparently Footie and I live in the same box, peeking out only to check the weather). However. He was fantastic. He seemed super pissed and angry and direct and I love that he looked right in the camera and addressed the would-be rapist.

This exactly. Just because I like it doesn't mean I can't see how it would offend others.

The comments on that Gawker article are pretty amazing.

I think Antoine seems pretty awesome. I would want my siblings to have my back like that.

I love this too, because whenever race comes up online some moron says this. Who the hell are these people who think its hard being white? I can say from many years of experience that being white is easy and that there have been many times where I have thought "oh, man, if I wasn't white, there's no way I'd get away with this."

People who refuse to employ basic cognitive processes that could enable them to negate their own fuckfacery because they are too lazy or too afraid of engaging with a very real problem. "It's hard being white" really means "it's hard to listen."

I'm a huge Antoine fan, LOVE the song, hate halloween blackface.
