The last paragraph was really stupid "Author" wrote: I’m well aware that there are those who have moral objections to the idea of killing animals in order to eat them, and I respect that view. I also know, as does even the most avowed carnivore, that any once-sentient creature’s life deserves more than a one-word summation. And yet, I can only report what I found to be true in my one and only experience in genuine farm-to-table eating. Forgive me for saying so, but Splotch was delicious.

WHY WHY WHY WHY do all these articles end like that?!
Yes, of course, we must take seriously the need to treat animals (chuckle chuckle) with respect. This was (snort) was delicious!
I hate the world of artisanal, I-watched-it-die meat!

I hate the world of artisanal, I-watched-it-die meat! it's true. i read this and thought of at least four other articles on this theme that closed in exactly that way. and it's not like i read all of them. i guess it's cute to people devoid of empathy.

I hate that the people who buy into it think that because they had a more direct role in the death, they are untouchable and immune to any further questioning or doubt as to their position. That article is just creepy. When you really think about it, it actually reads kind of like a horror story...

These articles are filler by now, but they're still annoying.

Quote: Then the shank arrived, the size of a small child’s head, flanked by beans and Brussels sprouts. It looked recognizably like a body part, and the skin … well, the thing about crispy cooked pig skin is that it can look like a third-degree burn. As I cut off a chunk of it, with its slippery underside of half-rendered, translucent fat, my ambivalence about eating Splotch manifested. I had a momentary gag reflex. But then it was over, almost as soon as it began, and I finished my shank and moved on to the final course, a medium-rare—as rare as I’ve eaten—pork chop. ::::facepalm:::: What idiocy; he looks at what he's eating, gets the gags........................and then just keeps eating the poor animal. So much for "aha" moments. RIP, Splotch.

But see? He passed the test! He is human (and humane) enough to care for a moment, but then he masters himself and returns to his rational, narcissistic self! Hurrah! He's not one of those animal people!

He's not one of those animal people! It's weird to me that all these articles tend to treat compassion and empathy as weaknesses to be confronted and conquered. Let's stir up our conscience as much as possible, and then wrestle that son of a bisque to the ground and show it who's the Übermensch.
