Aaaww, poor birdies! I've never seen blackbirds with those markings before, they're beautiful.

Anyone ever watched signs *gulps*?

They're so gorgeous. They like to hang out by streams and stuff and they make crazy noises and try to sit in the highest trees possible.

How awful. At least it sounds like an isolated incident stress incident, not some disease that will spread through their population.

The white nose syndrome (fungal disease) that has killed off more than a million bats so far (Eastern U.S. and spreading) has me really worried.

On the news they said that it might be disease but if it's stress related I would feel better. I don't like dead birds at all but at least it wouldn't be something that could potentially wipe them out. If it was weather related I would be a bit concerned as well because climate change is an ongoing problem that only looks like it will get worse.

Oh wow, on the news this morning they said it was about 100 birds, which seemed awful. But 4000-5000 birds is just mind-boggling.

My dad and I were just talking about this. : / I wish there was a way to vaccinate the bats against the disease.

Aww, that's so sad. They are so beautiful. The article said that large fireworks may have played a role.
I always feel sorry for birds when there is a fireworks display.

There were freak storms all through that area then so I wonder if that was the cause. Tornadoes, lightening, hail, all sorts of stuff.

seen on another forum: this very thing happened in New Jersey last year, in Franklin township, leading to 4-5000 dead starlings. They were killed on purpose.

"Thousands of dead fish have turned up in an Arkansas river just days after 3,000 birds mysteriously dropped dead from the sky, but authorities say the deaths are not related.

An estimated 100,000 dead drum fish are floating along a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River and washing up on the river's banks near the town of Ozark in the northwestern part of the state."

CNN reported that 500 dead blackbirds were found in Louisiana as well. What the hell.

Also, lots of fish have been dying in Brazil and in the Chesapeake Bay.

The Left Behind guy says that dead birds falling from the sky are more pagan than Biblical, so it's only the pagan apocalypse. Rest easy, dudes.

This is happening in Sweden, too. Hundreds of birds died last night in Falköping, which is a few hours east of Gothenburg.
