Little bit of back story for you, a gay couple (who had a civil partnership, which in UK law carries the same rights as a marriage) arrived at a B+B in Cornwall and were told that they couldn't stay because they had only booked one room, there were no others available and (as Christians) the owners faith forbade them from allowing unmarried couple from sharing the same bed (thus refusing to recognise the Civil Partnership).

The gay couple took them to court and won:

The thing I found most annoying is that all the Christian supporters were carrying signs saying "It's their home" which is true, until they open it as a B+B and then it's a business and subject to the same legal requirements as any other business. Basically, this couple can suck it, they lost (although the judge has given leave to appeal).

Mat.

That's pretty absurd.

Awesome the couple won the case.

I hope it makes bigots think twice about denying services to people based on their sexual orientation.

I cannot imagine that they had never had unmarried heterosexual couples book a room in their B&B before. Let's be real.

This is what I was thinking. Did they ask every couple that ever booked for proof of marriage?

I am glad the couple won.
