not sure how I feel, Lions are not endangered...and is killing a lion worse than a cow...it shouldnt be

but I still think this is lame, and Im not sure I fully (emphasis on fully) disapprove of the actions that caused them to pull it

The lions were privately "owned", so not-threatening to wild lion populations.

During the World Cup, there was a place in Mesa, AZ that served up African lion burgers. How festive, right? I'm thinking this Tucson restaurant got the idea from them.

I hate comments on yahoo. I'm not sure, though, whether the bat-shit crazy posters are worse than the posters that attempt to sound reasonable:

"There are plenty of meat sources from chicken, beef, pork, snake, alligator but there is no need to kill animals that have other purposes..."

Huh?

Cows, pigs, snakes and alligators clearly only have the purpose of feeding humans. Unlike lions.

Did you ever see a cow perform with Siegfried and Roy? Well then.

I thought carnivore meat tasted gross?

Then, I'm no meat expert.

"Other purposes" is omnivore for "I like looking at 'em."

They may not be endangered yet, but a there's been a huge population (50%) decline in wild lion populations over the past two decades. bullshiitake like this that glamorizes eating wild animals is not helping. I guess it's cool until they're actually endangered. Then we get to say mea culpa and hold lots of ritzy celebrity galas to save the lions. Something to look forward to!

It's not better or worse than eating cows, chickens or turkeys, but each type of animal slaughter has it's own unique consequences that need to be considered.

I'm glad they took it off the menu.

They took it off the menu! Sweet. I've been soooo pissed off about this. Did you guys read that asinine quote of his? I can't find it right now but it was something about selling the lion tacos so his restaurant would get more publicity. What a douche.

I like Arnold, who asks the probing question...

I should be outraged when someone threatens violence in retaliation for killing unborn babies.

He makes an excellent point; I hear that unborn baby tacos are delicious. To paraphrase Mark, the (obviously extremely macho, judging by his football-playing-man avatar) commenter just above him,

Quite. (Is anybody else getting hungry around here?)

I was a total crasshole in my pregan days and ate all kinds of weird meats. I was offered lion meat once, and for some reason just the idea of it grossed me out, and I thought it was really unethical. Warped logic, I know--it's all unethical!

I guess you could argue that it's less ethical to eat a carnivore than an herbivore, given that they exist at a higher trophic level. But I doubt that has anything to do with people's gut reaction.

I'm ok with fetus tacos, personally, provided that the fetal meat is humanely harvested. But there's not a lot of meat on those rubbery bones. I think we should be using all those euthanized cats and dogs in tacos--I mean, it's not like you can readily determine where your ground, spiced meat comes from. Why waste all that happy meat? The happiest meat of all?

I think the reason this bugs me is that it expands the number of animals that are considered edible. It's not that it's worse to eat a lion than it is to eat a cow. It's that people already eat cows and I don't want them to develop a taste for lion too because that would just spread the misery caused by meat eating further.
