The wifi got shut down, and bathrooms were locked (but some have reopened).

Apparently CNN just called out Obama for sitting on the sidelines.

Here's another link calling out Obama for his campaign speech saying he'd put on some comfortable shoes and march with the protesters.

According to my twitter, the major networks aren't giving this a lot of mention. Can anyone confirm? I don't have teevee and am only getting news from online.

And the people will be staying the night in the capitol building again!
Possible but not confirmed, one Republican state senator may have said he will not vote for the walker bill. That would leave 2 to go to not pass it.

I sure hope they get 3 republicans to switch over. If enough constituents are writing in to tell their local reps to vote no, it could change minds.

You're killing my hope.
They won't come back for one vote change. One doesn't change it.

Apparently, Fox is there, but they're being their usual Foxy selves. CNN did run an interview with Iman and announced the second anniversary of the Tea Party!

evidently a bunch of layoff notices have been handed out - my boyfriends little sister told us that all of the teachers at her high school got them.

if this bill goes through, there is a really good possibility that uw madison will break off from the uw system.
http://budget.wisc.edu/budget-news/budg ... uw-system/ (there's a copy of the bill attached, if you want to read)

also, to be eligible for federal funding, our transit system employees need to be able to collectively bargain, so our buses would most likely be shut down. http://www.stevenspointjournal.com/arti ... em-funding

I find this all very interesting, all the way from Australia.

There is a lot of union-hate here, it seems to come up every election. To be honest I don't think people really understand what they're hating, they just like to say "She's/He's controlled by the unions".

I was reading a Reuters article that had the following interesting tidbits:
Quote:
Protesters supporting unionized state workers have occupied the Capitol Building for two weeks and a rally on Saturday drew more than 70,000 people to the grounds, the biggest demonstration in Madison since the Vietnam War.

And
Quote:
In Ohio, thousands of protesters converged on the state capital as legislators considered a bill to curtail collective bargaining rights for public workers and eliminate their right to strike.

The people were removed from the capitol building last night and some slept outside. They are waiting to try to get back in today.

The state Senate Republicans just voted 19-0 to hold the 14 Democrats in contempt if they don't come back by 4 PM tomorrow. Only one of them needs to be in the chamber -- even if s/he's in handcuffs -- for the bill to pass. The Sergeant at Arms has been given orders to take the missing Senators into custody using "any and all necessary steps, with or without force, and with or without the assistance of law enforcement officers, by warrant or other legal process, as he may deem necessary in order to bring that senator to the Senate chambers so that the Senate may convene with a quorum of no less than 20 senators."

The end is nigh.

I hate everything.

ETA Okay, I hate everything except this.

The recall petitions to unseat 8 key state Senate Repubs have officially been filed:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/0 ... 30395.html

Every poll that i know of so far has shown majority opposition to Walker's budget repair bill and support for keeping collective bargaining rights. It'll be interesting to see if that can translate into some successful recall votes.

I'll probably be out here until next Friday.. I'd like to stay longer and work on the campaign, but feel bad about having the cat sitter taking care of my cats for so long.

doncherry, thank you for being there and working on this. It is so important.
If you know of anything we can do from out of state, please post it. I write to the Dem senators who were out of state, but there doesn't seem to be much we can do.

If the strike seemed inevitable before, it must REALLY seem inevitable now, because the Republicans just stripped all of the fiscal parts out of the budget bill and passed only the union-busting part as a standalone bill in committee.
