Since when is there truth to anything Glenn Beck says? I think Glenn Beck is using the verb form of vegan; it's archaic and rarely used in modern vernacular, but it means "to behave as one whose head is comprised of the droppings from the arse of a horse."
It has nothing to do with vegetables.

people are insulted if you assume they are vegan because they care about animals? I feel like most vegans I've met care about animals, their health and the environment to varying degrees. I guess I've met junk food AR vegans who didn't care about their health, but for the most part, people seem to care at least a little bit about everything.
Maybe it's an age thing again. I do a lot of outreach and meet many older, conservative people turning vegan for their health. They wear leather, don't worry about animal ingredients in non-food items, and even eat meat on occasion. I encountered one woman at a vegan restaurant who was nonchalantly wearing a fur coat, and know a couple of vegan men who are leather-wearing Obama birther advocates. We have interesting discussions about politics, but I'm not going to dispute their veganness.
But for the most part, yes, vegans do care about animals, and if they don't to start with, many evolve into it. I'm not entirely comfortable with how vegan is being watered down, and I didn't like how vegetarian was watered down either - but in the interest of every little bit helping the animals, I'm more happy that people are on the plant-based path, whatever they call themselves.

Your random examples of people pretending to vegan doesn't encompass the entirety of vegans that chose to follow a vegan diet and/or lifestyle for reasons other than animal rights. The positive thing I'd say is that at least some people are trying to reduce their animal consumption in some way.
The week I went vegan for health reasons, I decided that if I dont eat animal products, I shouldn't wear them either or use products tested on animals. Although I called myself vegetarian and still use that more frequently than vegan. I will gladly be a spitetarian instead of vegan though.

Gary "fonzi" Francione is too busy trying to find ways to be more popular than Peter Singer to really think. Every time I hear him speak it reminds me of Butt-Head.
Vegan or not, Beck is a racist loudmouth with a bizarre understand of American history borrowed from the John Birch Society. He's not a better person because he's chugging wheatgrass juice.

What is he saves a vegan birch tree from being cut down and then hops around a room pointing at trees and yelling and slowly turning a wee bit red in the face?

I would not like him in a house. I would not like him with a mouse. I would not like him, Panda the C!

They could film it. A sort of post-postmodern road trip film. A new Bing Crosby and Bob Hope...

From the Glenn Beck conspiracy generator: Now, I believe this photo has finally cleared up absolutely nothing.

Totally! He doesn't want to be placed in one of our camps!
And he wants to protect his kitten.

Please don't judge him....he lasted 20 whole days, but he just couldn't take it anymore! I confess to being kind of disappointed that he didn't just eat Ginnifer Goodwin (after wrapping her in bacon, of course); I suppose he was afraid of her ears getting stuck in veneers.

It's really sad to me that there are people celebrating this in the comments section. I loathe Glenn Beck, but the world isn't a better place because he is eating meat again.

I saw that and wanted to cry. Now what hot sexy vegan man will I have the pleasure of marrying?!

Right. And now that I think about it, Glenn Beck's veg-ness would have been a great way to challenge the liberal, tree-hugging vegan stereotype.

Exactly. I love tattooed vegans with progressive politics and unusual eyeglass frames (I should, as that is what I am), but if that is who veganism "belongs to," then what is the hope? I want my grandmother to be vegan and my evangelical brother and the people who think Celine Dion is awesome and the people who are considering voting for Michelle Bachmann. I want Glenn Beck to be vegan because I want PEOPLE to be vegan and celebrating the end of his poorly thought-out and not incredibly genuine experiment means celebrating an ideal of veganism as a club.
Come to veganism. I don't care how you vote. But I reserve the right to hate you even though you're vegan.

I didn't read the comments when I first read the article because they had just posted it but it does seem strange for someone to cheer that someone else is no longer vegan.
Vegansaurus must be part of the lamestream vegan media. ;P
