I hope this doesn't mean Glen Beck is going to join the ppk and start arguments about abortion and returning to the gold standard. He seems like the message board troll type.
But I'm happy about anyone becoming a vegan.

I kind of hope Glen Beck joins ppk, we could use some fresh drama around here!

I feel like a thread has jumped the shark when either a) Donald Watson is quoted or b) someone gets called Hitler.

This does vaguely increase the chances of me running into him while I'm eating out. The I could go up to him and say, "Wow, of all the vegan celebrities I could have ran into--fork, why couldn't you have been Geezer Butler?"

I don't think we know yet if Glenn Beck will be eating a vegan diet. Remember how President Clinton's diet was mistakenly reported as vegan.
I got the impression that Beck is changing his diet out of a health scare.
If he does quit and complains about the quality of the food ( his fault for going to the extreme -- wheat grass etc ) I don't think it will cause much damage. There aren't many people among his audience that would have gone vegan, but will pull off from doing it if he disses the diet.
When you are talking about truth it matters what is said. When you are interested in influencing human beings it matters who says it. My opinion is that the more high profile people who give even a psuedo vegan diet try the better. I think that makes ordinary people more likely to give reducing their animal product consumption a second thought.

Once the abolitionists and welfarists(does anyone actually call themselves a 'welfarist'?) start bickering it is only a matter of time before Godwin's Law kicks in and Donald Watson is mentioned as well.

I don't know, y'all. When he first announced this, he mentioned the quality of his poop. He just might fit in around here if he plays his cards right.

I use welfarist when I can purposely irritate someone who is a glassy eyed abolitionist but I'm working on that. Really.

LOL +1 You know, I recently read a booklet by a Buddhist monk about the textual evidence for Buddhist support of vegetarian diets. In the pamphlet he discussed why he delayed his own decision to become a vegetarian. One of his reasons was other vegetarians turning him off by frequently talking about their inner workings. To be fair, I watched the Oprah Vegan Challenge. Her vegan guests did not say anything about poop, but two of the people who took on the challenge had a lot to say.

It's going to suck if he quits and cries (literally?) about how he's malnourished, though. My right-wing dad and his wife practically worship this guy, and I'll never hear the end of it Glenn Beck starts talking shiitake about veganism. Yeah, I kind of don't trust him either. It's great if he sticks with it (think of the audience he has!), but if he doesn't and then talks smack, well, think of the audience he has!

Yeah, it'll be nice if he's veganish if he doesn't talk about how freaking awful it is and how disgusting the stuff he has to eat is (wheatgrass is seriously ick). Hopefully someone will send him some cookbooks!

I have to imagine that if he has been vegan since February that he is getting some better food. I don't think that I could voluntarily eat food that I found disgusting for more than a few meals.

Get a load of these guys! That reminds of a magazine article I read about country music singer Randy Travis. It was in the early 90s. He essentially ate a vegan diet without it being called as such. The article went through a litany of digestive/food problems he had ( he looked very healthy ) that eliminated various animals foods one by one, leaving him "vegan". The article also described is relationship with his manager, 10 years his senior, without actually calling it a relationship. This was eons before being called a "cougar" became fashionable ( I hate that term ). Basically, Travis had to pretend to be someone he was not to avoid alienating fans of his music.
