My coworker loves her gender stereotypes. "There's no WAY my secret Santa is a guy!" because the gift was wrapped nicely. "I'm such a man about food" because she likes to eat a lot of food. Really?

I had my boss at my last job tell me that men should be paid more because they've worked longer in history than women. Sound argument.

Am I silly for thinking that it is illogical for someone, if in the hypothetical situation that they were the parent of a son or daughter (of legal, consenting age, 18 and up) who enters a relationship with someone at least 10 years their senior, to want to 'protect' the daughter from that guy by forbidding her from dating him, and if it were a son, to 'congratulate' that son for catching an older woman? I can't wrap my mind around the complete lack of logic. Am I missing something?

Wait, if prostitution is the World's Oldest Profession, and most prostitutes are women, doesn't that mean we've been working longer in history? I'd like my raise, please.

Shouldn't we be paid more to compensate for lost wages for that whole thousands of years we were out of work?

So I had looked at this thread this morning, and was thinking about how I didn't recall anyone using the word "rape" in another context and how glad I was about that. Well, I just had a customer in my showroom for an hour and he used it in regards to sales tax! And on top of that he was saying racist things (in a lower voice, even though we're the only ones here), chauvanist things, and told me about a 10 meat-related stories. I was like am I having a nightmare?? There was not much I could do, except have a dead expression on my face. He called Pres. Obama "The Annointed One" and was bashing Paris on top of everything else. I need to go home and take a long bath! :(

I'm a clinic escort. At the women's health clinic where I volunteer, the driveway and parking lot make an L-shape that wraps around the clinic. Those areas are private property, so the anti's can't do their thing there. Another escort and I sit in front of the building, just off to the side of the driveway and near the street. (I hope this is making some sense.) Today two regular protesters walked past us, bold as brass, carrying a plate of baked goods. I got up in disbelief and followed them around the corner, asking them where they were going. They said they were going to deliver them inside. The clinic manager saw people outside the locked door (the clinic wasn't open yet) and opened the door. I quickly called out to her that they are protesters. One of them said "we're not protesters! We love Jesus!" The clinic manager told them that she can't accept packages, and they started walking away. On their way back they asked the other escort and I if we wanted a cookie.
What the hell? If you thought that people were literally MURDERING BABIES, as these people presume to do, why the fork would you try to deliver cookies to them?! I really can't believe the shiitake they do.

Maybe a seemingly nice gesture to try to get you to sit and talk with them in an attempt to change your mind about your evil ways? Or ..you know.. poison.

Yeah, they were trying to get into your good graces with baked goods (or at least look like the "good guys"), trying to lower your guard.
BTW J-puff, I've always meant to say I think you and what you do are awesome.

Wow. Why not delete her?
Or, do like I do, and get into long drawn out, heated arguments, because they are effective (at raising my blood pressure).

I really can't believe the shiitake they do. I imagine it's sort of like veganism in that respect. I believe meat is murder, but that doesn't mean I'll be hostile and awful to every person I know who eats meat. It's a weird kind of mental gymnastics, though, to put the fact that people I know and like (even love) eat the dismembered corpses of animals and support their murder out of my mind when I relate to them. I hope that makes sense - I'm braindead today. Also, thank you for the work you do, JP.

Watching a horribly dubbed B movie with my boyfriend that I would have enjoyed more if it weren't for the objectification of the only major female character. I told him how I didn't like that the male characters were trying to grab her breasts, butt, asking her to go to bed with them, the alien in the movie attempting to penetrate her with his tail, etc. etc. My boyfriend looked at me and said,'Yeah, but it's all in good fun and she got to kick some butt too.' Then he saw the rage in my eyes as I ranted about how inappropriate everything was and that her being able to kick asparagus wasn't an excuse to portray her in such a way. He took back what he said and agreed with me so we wouldn't get into another argument. -sigh- We get into arguments about how women are portrayed in video games too.

I should probably point out that I'm exaggerating about the rage in my eyes but I was pretty upset that he thought treating a woman like that, even in a terrible movie, was 'all in good fun'.

I started watching the original Star Trek series recently and I'm having this continual cognitive dissonance between "wow, this show is awesome!" and "wow, the sexism in this show is agonizingly egregious!" Especially knowing that the way women are portrayed in the show was actually considered progressive for its time. Mindblowing.

I really can't believe the shiitake they do. Yeah, I've been a clinic escort as well. They figure they're "turning the other cheek" or "softening their hearts to let the Lard in." As if somehow one's work at an abortion clinic can't be an expression of their Christian faith, too. One protester intentionally dropped a kleenex on the sidewalk and walked away. When I asked her if she was going to pick it up, she said, "Well, it's just tissue. Isn't that what you all say? It's just tissue!" C.R.A.Z.Y. ETA: I didn't realize L0rd comes out as Lard here! Too funny.

So they want you to throw aborted tissue on the sidewalk? Interesting and persuasive argument.
