so my dog pushed through the baby gate into the kitchen and decided to open a bag of ziti and eat the whole thing. i'm freaked out. my mom said he'd probably be fine. he's a lab so he's a big guy. he hasn't barfed any up yet (i gave him a cap full of peroxide and it did nothing).

has anyone's puppy eaten a large amount of uncooked pasta? what happened?

i'd be worried--it can swell in his tummy as it absorbs water. keep an eye on him for a while.

my lab cross once ate a bag of frozen bread dough. according to most veterinarians, this should have killed her or thereabouts, and she acted like nothing had ever happened. and my aunt's lab ate money and batteries with no side effects. labs are sort of magic. none of this would stop me from staying awake and staring at him all night if he were my dog. but maybe you're not crazy.

i'm crazy, too. i keep going up to him every ten minutes and petting him to see if he's okay.

i don't get him at all. there was an open bag of apples and an open bag of potatoes on the shelf right next to the pasta, but he chose to rip open the pasta. i don't get it. i would have gone for the apples.

My grandfather's lab would eat underwear and socks. Whole. Constantly. She was an amazing dog.

Sorry I don't have any input on the pasta thing, but I hope your dog is okay!

My friend's lab when I was a kid would eat whole paint tubes. Then he'd poop blue or pink for a while.

my friend's lab mix did this, too! he'd also eat their kitchen floor. i guess labs have pica.

my guy has eaten lots of trash in his time, but nothing that could really hurt him.

My brother's lab ate a whole jar of vaseline.

I'll let you imagine the aftermath of that little snack.

Labs are special dogs. My brother's-in-law ate an entire bag of worther's candies. He unwrapped every single one and ate them all. Another time he ate an entire batch of chocolate chip cookies and a giant zucchini that was sitting on the table. All with no ill effects.

My friend's lab/bloodhound mix ate their countertops, windowsills and hot tub cover.

(I hope your pasta thief is okay, Hardcastle!)

My lab ate a chair made of unfinished wood. We came home and there was nothing left except a small pile of splinters.

That's what my one lab did- she unwrapped things. It was so cute.... except that she unwrapped CANDY and chocolate and ate it.
But she was always fine.

Glad your pasta pup is fine!

im glad your dog is okay! i know plenty of times ive been really worried about my dog after she's eaten strange things, but dogs have amazing digestive systems.
weird things my dog has eaten and lived to bark about:

- half a bar of soap (she threw up sudsy bile for a few hours)
- sawdust from an elm tree we had cut down
- 1/2 pound box of fancy chocolates
- an entire box of those mint "reception stick" candies, wrappers and all
- a whole cellophane bag full of candy, wrappers included (cellophane included)
- about 50 dryer sheets (not at the same time)
- 3/4 a can of dr pepper (she knocked an open can off the counter when she jumped up for something else, it spilled all over the floor and she licked it all up. she was WIRED)
- an entire tub of mink oil my husband got to condition his bike saddle (her coat was so shiny for weeks!)
- 1/2 a tube of mac lipstick
- 1/2 of my retainer

my aunt's dog ate a bag of glass christmas ornaments!! she had to have surgery to have the shards removed from her stomach.

Glad your dog is ok. My lab is absolutely obsessed with my lip balm. If I leave one anywhere for a minute, it's like she's got some sort of homing ability. She finds it, eats it, making a mess of slobber and plastic bits. I've learned to keep them in my bag, away from her. Last week the electricity went out and we'd lit tea lights. The next day, I found her eating the metal casings the tea lights are in out of the trash can. Yesterday I found her eating clementine rinds out of the trash--lots of them (I can do some serious damage to those 5 llb crates of clementines in one sitting!). I don't know if citrus rinds are bad or not, but it didn't seem like something that would digest happily. Nothing ever seems to bother her tummy. It's made of iron.

This thread has taught me that labs are insatiable little furry trash compactors.
Seriously, the only weird thing my dog eats is her own hair, so if a little wisp of it floats by while I'm brushing her she will stick her tongue out like a frog and swallow it.

I'm starting to wonder if my shih tzu is secretly a lab in disguise. He used to eat whole boxes of crayons, chocolate truffles... oh, and there was the time he ate a whole amanita mushroom. And slept it off. I don't even know how THAT worked.

yup, my dog who is part lab has eaten all sorts of shiitake and is always just fine! shes a monster when it comes to having something to put in that big old mouth! she ate a whole container of earth balance a few weeks ago and i could tell she didn't feel so great and had lots of burps and some crazy poo! she also ate a whole bag of choc chips and had no ill side effects whatsoever as well as whole loaves of bread! we try to be extra careful to put everything she can get to away, but sometimes aren't careful enough. luckily for her and us she hasn't gotten sick or hurt from the many things she finds and eats!
the grossest thing she eats is poo and other weird things in the yard! ugh. she didn't start eating poo until we switched her to a vegan diet and now she eats the neighbor's dogs poo which i guess contains some meaty goodness that she misses! shes a freegan.

Shih tzus can eat weird stuff. Mine ate the same pickle three times. (1. eat. 2. barf. 3. eat barf. 4. barf again. 5. eat barf again because it was so delicious and nutritious the first time and did not cause any sickness at all).

One of my dogs found and ate one of those rubber dishwashing gloves. She shat out each of the fingers (which were also filled with poop) individually. Dogs are disgusting.
