We were talking about it before, and someone had checked with Desert Essence about their tea tree oil floss. I've always thought it to be vegan, but do we know differently? I really hope it's vegan, because it's the best.

yeah I emailed them a while back and unfortunately that Desert Essence floss does have beeswax.

these're the only vegan flosses I know of and they're kind of hard to find in most stores...though I think places would stock it if you requested, I usually order online

That's so disappointing. I'll look to order one of those others next time. Thanks for the info.

I've started my cinnamon Eco Dent and everyone's right, you can't really taste the cinnamon!

Oh, shiitake! I have, like, 6 boxes of that tea tree floss in my bathroom cabinet right now! It never occurred to me that floss wouldn't be vegan.

Yeah, it didn't occur to me that THAT floss wasn't vegan. I most definitely thought it meant waxed WITH tea tree oil; not beeswax, and then extra tea tree oil.

Yeah, I meant hippie floss. I expect regular floss, like Crest or whatever, to be waxed with, like, lard. I did not expect Desert Essences floss to not be vegan. :(

It also comes in black! I use their toothbrushes, too.

I'm not hopeful, but I did message Desert Essence about removing "no animal ingredients" from the tea tree floss since it DOES have beeswax. Hopefully they will fix that.

I've been vegan for three years and it never occurred to me that my floss was not vegan! I'll be sure to pick up some Eco Dent. : )

It's a shame this sort of thing isn't regulated.

I think the problem is that many companies do not consider beeswax or honey to be animal byproducts, unfortunately. If a bunch of people email them and complain it might change their minds. Eco-Dent only started making a vegan floss after many vegans complained about the mislabeling of their Gentle Floss- it contains animal enzymes. They didn't realize that it would make the product not suitable for vegans and corrected it by beginning production of Vegan Floss. So it can happen.

The real problem with Desert Essence floss though is if they're not listing the ingredients on the package- I could swear that they used to, that's why I emailed them in the first place- I thought I vaguely remembered it.
