The store was freshly-stocked with exotic fruit last night, at a time when I was craving fruit. I went home with prickly pear, white dragonfruit, and this: Cthulhu fruit! It's delicious. Like a lemon, but not as tart, and without the juicy part.... just the peel and white rind, but the rind isn't bitter. Now what to do with this? Stir-fry with green beans? Lemony rice pudding? (I have coconut milk.) Lemon scones? Candy it? Make flavored vodka?

I can't see your photo (work server blocks most photo sites), but is it a buddha's hand? Those are the only fruits I can think of that look like Cthulhu. If so, it's often used as an air freshener! The peel can be candied, zested into salad or pasta or baked goods, or used to make a citron liqueur. Here's a Chowhound thread's recipe for "Buddhacello." A Google search for Buddhacello will yield a ton of others. Quote: 1/4 c grated citron zest 1 750mL bottle of 100 proof vodka 2 c sugar 2-1/2 c water
Put zest and vodka in a glass container, cover tightly, and let steep for about two weeks. When time is up, make a syrup using the sugar and water. While it's cooling, strain solids out of vodka using a fine mesh strainer. Then strain again through cloth. (Note: cheesecloth is too coarse; I used rags torn from an old white cotton bed sheet. Be sure to wet the cloth before you start. This step can take a while, but it's worth it to get all the sediment out.) Add about half the sugar syrup to the infused vodka, taste, and keep adding until it tastes sweet enough to you (traditional limoncello is quite sweet, but yours doesn't have to be). Pour into pretty bottle(s) (e.g. the final container) and age for another two weeks.

Just when I thought there wasn't another crazy fruit left to see, PPK has to prove me wrong. I bet flavoured vodka from this would make a killer screwdriver.

Yeah, that's totally a buddha's hand! I love those things!
I worked with a Chinese guy who brought me some candied buddha's hand in little packages. It was tangy and spicy and really fantastically awesome. I haven't been able to find them again. :(
Also, according to the folklore, if the fingers are curved inward (like they're praying), it's the Buddha's hand, but if they're splayed outward (like they're grabbing you!) it's a goblin's hand.
I also have run into buddha's hand-infused vodka somewhere-- I think it was in the fancypants section of the booze store...
Awesome and delicious.

I have never seen such a fruit before, or heard of it. It looks so crazy! It reminds me of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
