What do I do? She usually goes outside without a blink of the eye. But she stopped at the garage door when she heard the rain and looked back at me like "what the fizzle, are you crazy?" I don't want her to pee inside. She's rather old and I'm not sure her baldder is as up to the overnight sleep as she thinks it is. Should I leave it alone or is there something special I can do?

Hold an umbrella over her and then just drag her to the nearest grass. Paws on wet grass is it for Chester's bladder.

Is there a hydrant or something dogs like to pee on in the neighborhood? If so take her to it and let her sniff around...it's usually a surefire way to get my dog to go.

Really!?! I think you might be right, because she's sitting next to me at practically 1am, and she's normally asleep by now. I might have to do it. Must locate umbrella.

Our dog hates to pee in the rain, too. We just take him outside on a leash and command him to "Go pee!" until he reluctantly gives it up.

Okay, I guided her through the garage and into the backyard. She doesn't have a collar or a leash because she has a broken leg and rib that never healed properly and can't really go on walks anymore. So I pushed her gently outside into the rain. But she didn't go. And I pushed again and said "Go pee Peaches!" but she didn't go. I pushed her one more time and she started walking, but went to a lawn chair about 2 feet away and got under it. So I called her back inside. Then my Dad came out because he heard the ruckus and told me to go to bed. When I protested, he told me to go to bed, he "knows" her and she'll be okay. That she'll whine at 4am to go out later.
Since it's not my house I think I have to let it go.

I've heard dogs don't like to be out in the rain because it hurts their ears. So no real advice, but that might be why?

yeah, i've always had to kind of walk behind the dog to get them to leave the house, but usually once they're out in it already, they go for it.

my dogs refuse to go out without their rain coats. even then, they're pissed about it and want to go back inside immediately after they're done.

oh good, another chance for me to brag about my 11ish year old dogs impressive, stubborn ability to hold her pee for 36 hours (and maybe more!). she seems to not mind the rain so much anymore, but shes still pretty lazy. the only time her bladder gave out was when she was on roids, but those are stories for a different thread.

My dog never used to go out in the rain either until we bought him a tiny raincoat. An umbrella used to help sometimes too.

I can't get Toby to shiitake on a leash, period, if that makes you feel any better. I'll walk him for a half hour, and he'll shiitake as soon as we come inside. He has to be in a fenced in yard, by himself.
Another unhelpful post. You're welcome for that.

Gizmo hates getting wet, no matter if she is wearing clothes or booties. I put her on the leash and try to walk her, she just stands their pulling back and if i try to let her out in the yard she just sits at the door. Luckily she only weighs 7lbs so I carry her to her "go" spot so she can do her thing and then I carry her back home. It's a pretty silly sight

It's a pretty silly sight I'm planning on getting a smaller dog, so that's good to know. My sister's dog is a pitbull mix and she's probably 80lbs. I'd have to do some serious working out for that trick.

I had a dog who hated to get her PAWS wet. So when it was raining or muddy in the yard, she ran along this little five-inch-wide concrete ledge along the side of the house, until she got to a grassier area. Ridiculous! I have no advice for this problem either, sorry.

Buster won't go out in the backyard in the rain either to pee before bedtime so I have to leash him and take him to our neighbor's front yard where they have this big asparagus tree. He loves to pee on that.
