I'll start by saying I don't hate cats. What I DO hate is that because I'm pretty much the only house on this street without a cat, everyone else's outdoor cat likes to shiitake in my garden. Right under the window. There is literally a foot high mountain of cat crepe. And everytime I clean it up, 2 weeks later there's another moutain of shiitake.
I would like to repel the kitties without harming them. How do I do this?

mulch. cover up all bare soil with grass clippings, leaves, whatever. i think they're there because they like to have that bare earth to scratch around in.

Used coffee ground are supposed to work if you spread them around in the area!

You can get motion sensor sprinklers that would probably keep the cats away. Or plant a catnip plant somewhere you wouldn't mind them pooping (i.e. a unfriendly neighbour's garden).

You could try laying chicken wire just above your mulch. Not a very atractive solution, though. I've also heard of putting raspberry or rose canes across the soil. The theory is if they can't dig, they won't poop.

I had some raccoons, and I bought this sprinkle stuff that has the scent of a predator animal in it, and I noticed they made one to repel cats. Search 'cat repellent' on amazon, it's in a green labeled bottle... I forget the name though.

Stop growing catnip, duh!
I, too, have seen cat repellent powder/scent, but I don't have a cat problem (yet... crossing my fingers) so I have not had to use anything to remedy it! Good luck.

You would think that with a thick layer of mulch, covered by a thick layer of snow, the cats would go somewhere else. Oh no. They are still just shitting right on top of the snow. Right by my front door. Nothing better than opening the door in the morning and getting a big whiff of cat shiitake.

Its so cold out by us, and I know the little cats have no where else to go, so we feed them and provide them shelter.
As a thanks they don't seem to be shitting in our yard. So maybe feed them and hope they crepe in your neighbour's yards?

In my garden. I'm not heartless, I promise. Malcolm and I feed the squirrels in the backyard all the time :) They poop in the woods, where it belongs!
