I am a Philadelphian who moved to LA for 10 years and is now back in Philly and am seeking really good Mexican food. Does it exist in this city?

Im sure it does. I can think of Tequilas, El Azteca, and there is already a thread about Dos Segundas in the Philly Phorum.

No, good Mexican food that you find in California is non-existent here, sorry to say. Although, probably the best you can get are the real authentic taquerias scattered in South Philly. Veracruzana on 9th and Washington is probably the best you can get. My bf who is from the Bay Area said he will write something up later for you, and I'll post it soon.

Geez, now I could kill for one of those arm-length burritos from La Pinata truck in Oakland, CA.

Sadly, I agree with your bleak assessment of Mexican food. This will be a must-read.

I really like a little place called Jose's on 10th & Buttonwood (just sound of Spring Garden). I have no idea as to its authenticity though.
