ugh, i had an attack after not having one for a few weeks. i was on the way to meet up with some friends, luckily i know where there are public bathrooms along most of my routes. i was only delayed about 20 minutes though i had the feeling that it wasn't over, but it was just nausea.

do you guys keep in your head a list of "options" when you are driving or traveling about? Even if I am going somewhere I haven't been before I thinking in my head, ok fast food place, oh a tj maxx the bathrooms are in the center back, oh a stop and shop bathrooms next to the meat counter, home depot ask for some motherforking help if i am going to walk in. constant scheming.

I'm sorry :(

I don't keep a list of options, but given that I have a 4 year old we tend not to go many places w/o bathrooms, so that helps.

fupapack, I know where all the bathrooms are! It's usually the first thing I make a mental note of when I go somewhere if I'm feeling at all unsure of the status of my stomach. Places without bathrooms make me nervous!

Ack, after having very little trouble with my IBS since giving up dairy it's gone nuts this week. It's obviously all the stress from the attempted robbery on Sunday night but it just seems to be getting worse as the week goes on. Nothing I manage to eat stays in my stomach for more than a few minutes, I constantly feel sick, my stomach is constantly burning and I'm losing weight (at least 3lbs since Sun). I'm now sick with hunger but too sick to face eating, bleuugh. My period was also a week late and decided to show up today *wails & gnashes teef*

If I am stressed, I will even have a reaction to innocuous stuff like bread and cereal . . .

I don't know what my trigger foods are . . . coffee, anything greasy and spicy.

OMG, vegan IBS people!!! I am SUPER happy! This made my day.

3.5 year "diagnosed" sufferer, 1.5 year vegan. It has helped a ton, but not always. So many trigger foods or sometime trigger foods, so little time.

Has anyone had horrible experiences with their specialist? I have a douse. So, I get home from Italy 3.5 years ago and my intestines go into attack mode. PCP tells me to go off dairy. Doesn't work totally. I see a specialist. I tell him to give me every test known to man. He starts me off, and says "It's clean, normal." Well, can we try something else? I went all the way to getting a colonoscopy at age 21. I had to BEG the doctor to give me the test. So, after 3 days of pooping nonstop from the laxatives, and get the test done, he says afterwards, "You have IBS. Good luck."

That was about 3 years ago. I haven't seen him since and I am trying to fix myself. No meds. Grrrrr.

I am looking for a new specialist that CARES.

Newsie - That's horrible! Even the lousy GPs I've seen were better than that. I haven't seen a specialist.

I actually recently quit gluten to see if it helped my migraines and it helped my IBS. Or so I thought - I just had a horrible experience and almost died - I won't elaborate but you guys understand. There were nuts in my GF granola so I guess my previous idea that nuts hate me was correct and I'll go stick to that.

Ugh.

My stomach has been really upset the last couple of days. I have no idea why, I can't see what I'm doing/eating differently. It sucks.

Have you changed your schedule recently? I know if I have to wake up early, or I take a trip, I get sick sometimes. What about exercise? That really throws me for a loop sometimes. I drink ginger lemon tea and that can help. But I know what you mean about throwing you for a loop lately.

Even when it's too hot or cold outside (usually hot and humid), my stomach goes into panic mode.

I take pretty long walks everyday, though maybe they've been a little longer now during the school break. Other than that, I've pretty much just been home and taking it easy. My stomach usually gets worse when I have a lot of things to do, but I don't. And there's no change when it comes to temperature either. Maybe I should try drinking tea.

Ohhhh HELLO kindred spirits!!

I also get the upset stomach/hunger, and the afraid-to-eat...the whole shebang. Lately I've been really frustrated at work and it causes a terrible stomach ache by the time I get home...which means no gym. It's so disruptive!

My IBS was TERRIBLE until I experimentally cut out gluten about...15 months ago. WHOA! Sooooo much better! I had been biopsied and tested for celiac, and the tests came back negative. I'm not the only person I know who tested negative for a gluten intolerance, gave it up, and felt 100x better. I still get upsets, but nothing like before.

My trigger foods...gluten (obviously), alcohol (oh man...I can't drink anymore, at all), and coffee beverages. Sad, sad and sadder. But it's worth it to be able to work, and function, and be happy. My IBS is also often triggered by anxiety, and can often be the only symptom.

I took antidepressants for about a year to help the IBS, which did work, but nothing like getting rid of gluten. When I got rid of gluten, I got rid of the antidepressants.

i'm so sorry, appifanie! that sucks! i'm okay with nuts, but chia seeds = the devil for my stomach/IBS and fried foods. seems like all the things we really enjoy trigger it. sadface.

a mostly vegan on the beachbody boards told me about this site - http://www.nowleap.com/ - they test for food sensitivities, not allergies! i'm going to ask my allergist and GP about it because it would make life easier.

laurlaur - it's sad because before when i was starving but having problems i'd eat toast! rice toast = not so good :( i should probably quit coffee but i usually only drink 1 cup a day.

fupa - glad you made it!!

happy - it is sad :( nuts give me migraines too i think.

My gf won't let me participate in this thread because she says I already talk about poop too much as is.

Does anyone else go through boxes and boxes of peppermint tea? Usually when I am feeling sick, I sip peppermint tea. It def calms my stomach down and sometimes even brings a little hunger around.

Also, something I said to my doctor absolutely baffled her....that when I'm having an IBS attack or just a bad morning, I feel worse (as in...bad nausea) after I've gone to the bathroom. Anyone else have that problem?

YES! I have that problem, too, even after I feel decent and thought using the bathroom would make me feel better. It's like I wake up healthy, use the restroom and get sick the rest of the day.

my stomach is still forked up. the only different thing i ate yesterday was tofu. i hardly ever eat it because i can't afford it. i hope tofu isn't a trigger food for me. olive oil is also problematic to me.

I've been having a pretty rough stomach day. Kind of..dizzy, too. What the fork. Nothing in the stomach but peppermint tea, candied ginger, and some Emergen-C.

fupapack - tofu is one of the few things I can stomach when I'm feeling pretty gnarly. tofu scramble is the only thing that makes my appetite say..hmmm..yeah ok i'll eat.
