well well well. my life is upside down right now, but somewhere i have two sweaters almost finished. it'd be great if i could find them and finish them, since it's getting cold here and i have no warm clothes. i fault veganism.

Esme, everything is so frickin' fantastic! I can't wait to see what those penis socks look like when you're done with them.

Esme, I humbly bow down before your craftitude.

I took a very exciting trip to the fabric store today. I bought some adorable new flannel prints for my Etsy menstrual pads, some reddish/salmon-colored twill for my halloween costume, and some cherry-red poly habutae to line a coat I am going to make. I got it all home, plugged in my serger after weeks of neglect, finished up the raw edges and put everything in the wash to pre-shrink! Then went to get started on some patterns and realized I'd run out of blue dot paper. DAMMIT. Oh well, once the flannel is dry I can do some pads at least!

Anyway, here is my Halloween costume (Lil from Twin Peaks: FWWM)

Image

And here is the fabric of the beautiful coat I am going to make! It's a Japanese cotton, the reverse side is a muted mustard yellow with the same red flowers. You probably can't tell from this photo but it's a little 'slubby' (technical term) and ever-so-slightly rough/handwoven-looking. It was super fancy and super pricey. It was my extremely belated birthday present to myself, bought at Britex in San Francisco with a gift certificate given to me last year by the SBS ladybros!

Here is a toddler-sized cotton sweater:

And here are pictures of a smaller cotton sweater, which is really just a tube with sleeves:

I am also mittenmacher on ravelry.

esme, you are a sock queen! Also, I really want to learn to sew. I have my grandmother's sewing machine, but no one to teach me. Maybe there are some good beginner videos online? I want to make bags and skirts and aprons.

I got all the supplies to crochet a hat for a friend, then I tried teaching myself crochet from youtube videos and failed miserably. Guess I'll just have to wait until I can bug my grandmother over the holidays...

I am knitting a scarf, probably to avoid starting my christmas projects! Before that I whipped up an awesome Jayne hat, which I need to take a photo of.

Pistachiorose I taught myself to crochet using The Happy Hooker and I now find crochet easier than knitting, you should give it a go.

I bought this book, but yeah, I have no idea how to start crocheting. I'll be keen to hear if you find any good instructions. And by good, I mean designed for idiots.

i am finishing my last attempt at the Maude Louise cardigan. http://knittingkninja.com/2007/03/03/maude-louise/ it's kicked my asparagus twice and if this time doesn't work out, i give up officially. but kittee keeps inspiring me with her cardigans so i haven't given up yet.

I also did a Tube (scarf/hood/very large thing) for the kid, am doing another one for me.

Esme, I LOVE your bags! I have made both (or at least ones that look like both of your styles- the closed bottom one and the mesh stitch one) and every time i make one i end up giving it away. I have one mesh stitch one that is sacred though and it is the shiitake.

I need to figure out what else to make.

Anyone on ravelry, I am torque there too- don't go there too often but may start again soon. Mittenmacher, i'll look you up next time i go there.

I'm making a little lamb from Tiny Yarn Animals by Tamie Snow. It's for my best friend. I still haven't made a damn thing for myself, and I started crocheting in May. Next I am either going to crochet a hat for myself, or teach myself how to knit so I can make socks.

What kind of yarn should I use? In the past I used wool but now I need a good alternative! Thanks!

Here are some socks I finished knitting while on vacation:

Image

The pattern I used was Destin, a free Ravelry pattern:

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/destin

The yarn was 2 skeins of Panda Cotton in the Sahara Colorway.

Damn, all these creations are great.
I'm knitting a jumper for a friend for christmas ( I missed the birthday deadline) and as soon as I find a decent pattern I'm going to knit a jumper for the bf's birthday because he has no heating, poor thing.
First jumper attempts. I'm worried about the stitching together.
