I know we complain every October, but seriously. Is it me or are they especially bad this year? I have fruit flies in my freakin' bathroom. I have two apple cider vinegar traps and two friendly Daddy Longlegs who have built a beauty of a cobweb above my compost pail, and nothing. It's still a swarm.

Ours aren't too bad. They're there, but they love the compost so much that they mostly don't bother going anywhere else.

I have found them to be strange. In the past when I have had them I will have a million, right now I think I have 3.

seriously. I can't figure out where they're coming from, all my food is uninfested. Maybe it's time to baking soda/vinegar the drain? Harrumph.

We have them but they seem to like the compost so much that they don't bother with much else.

I finally broke down and bought some of those sticky fly papers to hang from the ceiling. I think everything's hatching now. I saw a mosquito in the bathroom this morning, the cockroaches are back, and I just found a flea on my dog, who never has fleas.
Oh, and my Daddy Longlegs(es) are out of luck. I saw a fruit fly hanging out on the web and I was like "yes! Triumph!" But then it flew right off, taunting me. Fruit flies are impervious to cobwebs! My poor Daddy Longlegs, they're so hungry...

No fruit flies here... But that's because I end up putting a lot of the compost stuff down the drain/InSinkErator, instead of in the compost bin. It's not even on purpose, that's just a reflex learned from childhood.
I did have ants for a day, until I removed the baklava that was hidden behind my ceramic jars from the counter. Ah, boys... At our old apartment, my boyfriend had this beer keg that he never drained completely... Fruit flies LOVED that thing. UGH! Luckily a friend wanted to use it, and cleaned it before he returned it.

Because I'm baffled as to where they're coming from at this point, though there are fewer than there were a few weeks ago. eta: I know I'm not in the Bay Area or even remotely near it, and I'm not even sure how I stumbled upon this thread other than the creative title enticed me, but I'm glad I did, because I have this problem.

I'll be happy to transplant mine for you! Every time I open my window at night some horrible thing flies in and bites me. Our cockroaches have seemed to come back this week too. They had been gone, or dormant or something for almost a month.

Gnarly! I haven't seen any yet but since I just moved cities I have been trying to get into the habit of buying minimal groceries, as I go.

Ugh I have them too. No matter how much I clean and how often I take out the trash and compost, they are there. I try to leave the windows open to give them a way out but they always come back somehow!!

If anyone needs a solution and isn't opposed to trapping, they LOVE apple cider vinegar.

I had a BUTTLOAD last month, all hanging about my kombucha and annoying the fork out of me. But I think they're gone ::knocks on wood:: cause I've only seen like 2 in the past week.

Yes! Grr. It's like a cloud wafting above my kitchen sink.
What do you do to get rid of them?
I cut a liter soda bottle in half, and put bait in (cat food, apple cider vinegar), and flip the top upside down and stick that in the bottom part. Some of them get stuck in the bottom half. But lately I've had so many that even this trap isn't working.
Somebody mentioned drain flies. How do you get rid of ones in the sink?
I'm glad somebody mentioned the flies cuz here I was thinking, Oh my house must be so gross and unsanitary, what with the fly cloud.

We had a cloud of fruit flies IN THE FRIDGE at my office! Someone left a half apple in there to save for later, and the temp was not as low as it should have been, and when I opened the door to get soy for my coffee, they swarmed out! It was crazy! They've since been eradicated from the fridge, but there is one lone one in my office that drives me CRAZY all day.
