Our companioncats regularly hide our things, knock everything we own off shelves and tables, and then proceed to play with them loudly or even run squealing around our bedroom at high speed while we sleep. But no matter what they do, there is an apologetic look (unlike the dog). Even the time the cat ran across my face and left me with a bleeding cheek.
They just give you this quizzical "why are you looking at me like that?" look, when you're angry. Is it just my very bad delinquents?

Luna is mostly unapolOgrtic, but if she gets really excited when we're playingvwnd bites or scratches our hands, she'll hold our hand between her paws and lick it. That's it though, she'll destroy the house, she must think it is hers to redecorate! ; )

Luna is the only graceless cat I've ever seen. She misses jumps and tumbles, then her eyes dart at us to see if we saw, and she'll mew and scurry away. Adorable.

Actually I don't think that either is really correct- my theory is that they know they can get out of a shitload of trouble if they give you one of those "sad" looks. I mean how can you stay mad at that?

Sad maybe, but not apologetic. And I've never seen a sad look except for treats. You know, the "I'm so hungry and you refuse to feed me. I think you eat all the treats yourself you chunkybutt."

When I was like 10 I got a cat for Christmas. I think it was a stray my mom had picked up outside her office and she'd never really heard of feral cats or I don't know..for some reason this seemed like a good idea to her at the time. Anyway, she gives me this cat and I leave it alone for like 4 minutes max that night and come into the kitchen and it's sitting...no, bathing in this bowl of shrimp salad - like the mayonnaisey kind - my mom had just made. We stand there and look at her for a few seconds, not sure what to make of it, and she tears out of the bowl, off the counter, out the door and proceeds to be a "lost cat, reward if found" for a week until she finally saunters up one night like nothing ever happened.
I like to think that was an apology.

It wasn't. She was just reminding you who is boss and that you are never to interrupt her mayo baths again.

Vengy has this 'look' I can only describe as perturbed when I scold him or try to stop him escaping out the front door by picking him up when I get in... it's a half-cocked head and pouty face thing. I need to get a picture of it some day.

My cats are only nice when they want food. They certainly don't apologize for anything...

If by "apologetic" you mean a, "Yeah, I just broke your shiitake, too bad for you!" kind of look, then yes, I have seen that.

See my cats make their eyes all big and round (like Puss N Boots from Shrek) and will even start to act all cute because they KNOW I can't stay mad at them- I just can't.
The only time that I get the "angry" look is when its vet time.

Roxy feels no shame. She blows through like a tornado and runs off leaving destruction in her path. Her and one of the dogs like working together. She knocks anything she can off of tables and such and he picks them up, chews them up, and spits them out. Nice little set-up they have.

Elmer's only face is "I'm going to kill you, you're lucky you escaped THIS time". Evil, right outta the box.

Never an apologetic face! When Tristan gets caught doing something bad, he'll kind of slink away with a bit of an embarrassed look. When Gershwin gets caught, he will stand there and stare at me with furrowed brows like he is angry at ME for being angry at HIM.
