What do people use in place of graham crackers?

I randomly found liquid smoke awhile ago in a shop in Milton Keynes that sold random stuff from all over the world - like chocolate coated insects, coffee picked by monkeys etc. I can't remember the name now though. Sorry I am not very helpful!

Does anyone know how to make vegan snowballs? The drinks I mean. Yes, I could google, but I'm really tired. Do it for me.

I usually use Dove's Farm Organic digestives, I always have big plans to make my own Graham Crackers but I can never be bothered!

I use digestives instead of graham crackers too. or hob nobs! :)

I had no idea what a snowball was but I had a wee root around on the internet for you at work this afternoon (hey, that counts as a reference enquiry, right?) All I could see (and I admit I didn't search very far as damn students kept interrupting me) was this post on reddit:

I had one the first time I was in the UK (pregan), and I thought they were pretty foul. Advocaat (the alcohol they're normally made with) is made with egg yolks, so it's actually milk, eggs and lemonade. Barf. Then again, traditional nog is made with eggs, and I love nog. So I can see why other recipes suggested a vegan nog as a base.

McVities regular ones are not, lights are. Some supermarket own brand ones are. I used to buy the budget morrisons ones when I lived near a morrisons.

Is that the shop in The Center that has lots of different kinds of hot sauce and half of the place is a coffee shop with muffins the size of your head? I love that place.

Just letting you guys know, you can get really cheap black salt (kala namak) on eBay.co.uk! I almost bought some from some of the sites you guys mentioned but the shipping was just way too much. On ebay the shipping is more reasonable! This is the eBay store I got it from:

i got a pack of kala namak at a small asian grocer's shop in rusholme, manchester. it was about 75p for a 100g packet so quite a bit cheaper than even that ebay seller; if you have any of these kind of shops near you then it'd definitely be worth checking if they have any too.

Thank you. I'll try that before I go with ebay. I do in fact have a great Asian grocers near me in Cowley, Oxford so will go and ask. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. I get all my stuff like chickpea flour, plantains, yuca, cheap bags of lentils and other more exotic legumes there so you'd think kala namak would be the kind of thing they'd have...

It's why I like h&b so much; I just lick random surfaces for a fix whilst I fill my basket with mock meats and muesli.

actually, i got home and checked and i lied- it was 59p for 100g! also, the brand is natco which is one of the bigger spice brands around so i'd be surprised if the grocers you mention didn't have it, or at least couldn't get hold of it for you.

A dry roast mix of sesame and sunflower seeds with a dash of tamari makes a great snack, but if post cooking you grind the seed mix I've found they add a good smokey flavour to other dishes Use for example with breadcrumbs to coat tofu

I wish that there were places around here that sold things (like nooch) in bulk bins. I just have to buy little tubs of it which are about £3 a time and it gets so expensive. I also wish Whole Foods would open up in the north because I love that place.
