There used to be a post from Isa Chandra about how to post food porn. I need to see step by step. Can anyone find this post and rules for posting? I tried search with no results. Thanks, Stacie

get the URL for your photo. start a thread. click on the "Img" button above. then paste your URL. the URL needs to go between the brackets.

it will look like this:(img)http://photolink.jpg(/img)

but instead of parenthesis, it will be brackets.

Unless you are on Flickr and them you can go to "share" your photo, click on grab the BBC code and then you just co[py and paste without having to use the [img] boxes

That, but also:

- try to find a place or spot with natural light. (I sometimes put my plate on the window sill for enough natural sunlight)
- if it's not a close-up, try to find something "nice" to fill up that part of the photo that's not food (nice table cloth etc)
- try different camera settings. (I sometimes use the portrait option, also because on my camera that allows changing the strength of flash)
- experiment with settings for close ups or macro settings
- in some circumstances with not that much light, some camera's automatically use a longer shutter time, which can lead to blurry pictures.
In such cases simple cheap tripods can be helpful or useful.

I'm a luddite. Which Flicker or Photo Bucket type thingy will be easiest for me to use? Or is there something else you recommend?

Does nobody care? Don't you want to help a technophobe post food porn? I have lots of pictures of yummy food that you can all drool over if I ever figure out how to post them!

they're both very different. flickr might be slightly more convenient, but if you'd like to create folders with your images so you can easily find them later, photobucket might be better. flickr has limitations on how many sets you can make, which is kinda frustrating.

flickr on the other hand is more social. so it's up to you.

Photobucket or Flickr doesn't make that much difference in my view. I've used both in the past.

Photobucket could be slow to upload, but it's free and offers enough options to post on message boards like the ppk.

Flickr, seems slightly better to upload, but the more you've got, the slower it seems to be.
(until you pay for your account like I did)
Downside of Flickr is that they want you to post things in such a way that it creates a link to your Flickr account or album including your Flickr name.

I don't like that and often get around it by doing a right click on the image and copy the link for the image.

ie, what Flickr wants: (share > BBCode )

I do right click on the image, then copy image location and put that link between [img]and[/img] tags like (my view is that I PAY for the account so I shouldn't have to credit them for hosting my pics)


Photobucket offers a slightly more easy way to get links for a picture you want them to host:
(you will have to resize them to max. 800pixels wide for the ppk in order to be able to post them)
and copy the IMG code on the right of the screen.

Thank you supercarrot and Veg_Eric! It sounds like Photobucket might be a little less evil and a tad easier to use, so maybe I'll start with that. But I'm still open to suggestions, especially if there are high endorsements of other such places besides these two.

I use photobucket exclusively for forum posting. It's just easy and quick to upload the picture you want to post at that moment, grab the bbcode link for that photo and paste it into the body of your post.

I use flickr too, but tend to use that more for when I have a bunch of photos from a vacation or something that I want to have in one place and share with a bunch of people irl.
