I'm in the market for some running shoes for the first time in a few years. I have Vibrams, but I only swim in them. I'd like to know about the traditional kind with arch support & all that good stuff. What are you running in & where did you find them?

I have worn Adidas Supernova Cushions for about 6-7-8 (?) years.

They fit me really well because they are broad at the toe bed and narrow at the heel.

You have to try on lots and/or go to a shop where there are trained people to fit your foot and your running style.

I first bought them at The Running Room but now I just keep an eye out for sales or end-of-year clearance at other sports stores.

Last time I bought some, last month, I found them at half price *and* because they were in clearance I got another pair of clearance shoes free. I found a pair of Nike Frees in my size and have been wearing them for walking (to work and around the neighbourhood at night) but I'm not sure about them for running. I love the feel of them, though.

I run in Adidas too, but I highly suggest that you go to a running shop and get fitted. You can tell them your budget if you are afraid they are going to try to sell you a $200 pair of shoes, but you can cause a lot of problems if you aren't wearing the right shoes for your feet. Also, they tend to let you return them if you start having issues when you are out in the real world.

Road Runner Sports online has a fit guarantee as well. I've ordered from them before and was very happy.

I run in Brooks Adrenalines. I also suggest you go get fitted at a running store. They will usually watch you walk/jog and can tell whether you over/underpronate and get you into the correct style shoe. They should also let you jog around the store or in an alleyway behind the store while you are trying on shoes.

I'm just now seeing your post & I ended up with these same shoes. I wanted to order online, but I went to the specialty store on my lunch break. They videoed me jogging on the treadmill, put it in slow-mo & all that fun stuff. I'm officially overpronated! Only one shoe in the store had leather, so that wasn't an issue.

yeah the leather thing, in my experience anyway, does not come up too much with running shoes. I think most of the larger companies are going to synthetics for the durability and breathability. Glad to hear you had a good experience and found a nice pair of shoes!

I wear Brooks Adrenaline too and I like them a lot.

I had a choice between NB, Asics & Brooks. I had been in New Balance forever wanted to try something new. Also, I liked this blog post that acknowledged my peeps.

My wife loves her Brooks. Personally my feet are used to NB & anything else just feels weird. At least this is one area where buying vegan is really easy - to be honest I think you'd struggle to find a running shoe with leather even if you tried.

i am allergic to running, but my husband is seriously into running (just ran his first marathon, woo!) and he looooves asics shoes.

whatever you do, get them fitted. you want your shoes to fit your feet and your running style and your body weight and all of that, to avoid getting ache-y knees and running injuries.

I love my Asics Gel Cumulus. Extra padding for running on city streets and sidewalks.
