i haven't been to the basement market in years, but when i've gone previously, all the veg stuff was in the right hand corner of the freezer section. (it was difficult for me to get to, since the door opens left and there are other fridges on the other wall, so make sure you have stephen or someone go with you.)

The one under the parking garage? I love that place. It's like walking into Fight Club going down there. I was also thinking of looking for this stuff there, but it's so far and it's been so cold. Ha, yep, that one. It's super close to me and I'm due for a trip (out of soy sauce and sesame oil! horrors!), so I will investigate soon. supercarrot wrote: i haven't been to the basement market in years, but when i've gone previously, all the veg stuff was in the right hand corner of the freezer section. VEGAN TREATS-
I emailed yesterday about ordering a cake. How long do you think is reasonable to wait without a response before calling or emailing again? (Obviously not time yet, it has only been a day and I am patient.)

I mentioned the Abbaye about 2 pages ago and I finally went. I'm glad I did, it was a great night to be vegan at the Abbaye. I had a great beer and they had 2 vegan specials, an appetizer and an entree, so I got both. The appetizer was a large plate of seitan wings, the seitan was housemade and had a fried crust and tangy, spicy sauce on them. The entree was really surprisingly good at $12, a large scoop of vegan mashed potatoes, some of the very best seitan steak I've had in about 8 years (Veggie Works in Belmar had the best grilled seitan steak ever, RIP!) that had a sort of crust/skin around the steak, sauteed with plenty of garlic in a red wine sauce with mushrooms and roasted asparagus. Really tasty, I was very surprised how nice of a texture the seitan had.

Where is the Abbaye? Sounds good!
Where should I go to dinner with my omni parents and omni bf on Friday? I don't think they are going for an all veg restaurant but any suggestions would be good. I don't want anything expensive or mediocre.

Royal Tavern as well but can be hard to get a 4 top on a friday night.

RandiJM wrote: I don't want anything expensive or mediocre. Inexpensive and awesome? This is why I love Philly. Also, because parking isn't terrible. Abbaye is Spring Garden / Northern Liberties so street parking is likely to be so-so. Not impossible, though. I agree with Eric. about Memphis Taproom, and parking up there is easy, though some of the surrounding neighborhoods aren't exactly Rittenhouse Square. Royal Tavern is packed - as Eric. has already mentioned - and it's not so easy to park down there. Have you considered West Philly? There are people better-informed to recommend places, but I always find it easy to park and relatively safe, especially within the Penn Cops beat. Maybe Dock Street? Is that any good for vegan food?

Oh I love the vegan pizza at Dock Street!
I think I have decided on Cantina Dos Segundos for Friday bc I haven't been and it is time! And I think it's perfect for this group. Yay!! We'll have to have a meet up at the Abbaye et al. Do I need to make a reservation for Cantina, for a Friday night, for 4 people?

Ughhh so upset Dos Segundos is all booked up for Friday! It's not even a participant in restaurant week (according to the list); how is it all booked! Lies/corruption!!
SO I need another restaurant suggestion for Friday - with my omni parents. Not a special occasion so no Horizons (and aren't we going next week people!!! :) ) and we've been to Mi Lah like 100 times. Memphis Taproom sounds so good but might be a little far for my parents. Ideas?

i've suggested dahlak to my parents, but they refused to go because of the surrounding neighborhood. so if your family has no idea what gray's ferry is, then i suggest going there. :-) (if your family is also okay eating with their hands)

I finally tried the Fu Wah Tofu Hoagie yesterday...delicious! The next 4-5 people who came in all ordered the same thing too and I chatted with a nice person who said that it's basically the only thing people get from there. :-) Also got a Chocolove Almond & Sea Salt bar which I am excited to eat by myself this Valentine's day, ha.

haha! yeah, most of these coupons are 1-per table.
i did have one (3) from grasshopper in boston that said 1-per person, and they didn't honor the language. (so i just gave the extras to the people i was staying with to use at a later time. i didn't want to cause a scene.)
