It's a bar! It's vegan! Anyone gone yet?

I have not been yet, but my friends go for their trivia, etc and are fans. It looks like a place I could definitely be down with.

I haven't been there, but I know they're providing drinks for Wednesday's doughnut party at MooShoes.

I'm going on Friday. Will report back! Apparently this place has been open since October?

I thought it opened in the summer, but I have a shiitake sense of time. It's the home of the new Vegan Drinks Brooklyn, though.

I've heard good things.

I didn't like the Vegan Drinks in Manhattan. Something about it rubbed me the wrong way. I think I was done when someone said I wasn't vegan enough if I didn't feed my cat a vegan diet.

I'd be willing to give that a go if it's a different crowd, but it might just be the same people.

I also had an issue with two skeezy dudes who couldn't take a hint at the one in the city... uhg. Sometimes a girl just wants to get her drink drank on.

I almost never go but when I do, I find the best way to avoid the creepers is to sit in a corner with people you know. Other people you know will come over but the lone creepers will usually be intimidated by the group and stay away. Usually.

I don't know any other vegans in the city (wait, no, one. I know one.), but no one really seemed interested in chatting when I came up to groups of people. It was a huge socializing failure.

Maybe it was just a bum night? I really only go if there's a fundraiser or I have to meet someone for something specific, but I know other people like it. I figure it isn't really my thing because I'm not social at all and don't really drink.

yay! i love coming to ppk & seeing stuff like this. pine box rock shop rules. i'm the girl that did the collage art on the bar top & bathroom walls there. the owners are super awesome; everything is vegan & delicious: super yummy drink menus (bloody marys to die for), vegan empanadas from v-spot & fun vegan snacks. you should all go & support them because they rule. :)
and wednesday night trivia is great! go- you won't be disappointed!

Do they do vegan Russians? Because I would break schmedge for a good vegan Russian.

Just went -- the drinks and empanadas were great, but it's SO damn far from my place (Wa. Heights) that I think I'll just make my own vegan Irish cream and call it a night. The atmosphere is a liiittle weird/bare, but I think that's because they're still fairly new. If I end up moving to Brooklyn, I'll probably end up here semi-frequently.

Everyone was very friendly, and like I said, everything was tasty. I got the Squirrel Nut Zipper and Suffering mustard: definitely recommended.

This is a million miles from Queens, but someday I'll check it out.

They are right next to a train stop, so that's nice when you're drunk.

I can't guarantee that the crowd will be any different in Bushwick, but you should come out. I'm the person who started Vegan Drinks. Some folks are cool, some aren't. I'm sorry you had a less than fun experience -- I don't like everyone I meet either. I expect a number of new faces will pop up in Bushwick this month. If you come, find me. I'll be the crasshole in the orthopedic boot, possibly with crutches.

As for Pine Box Rock Shop, it's awesome. It's the last place I visited before breaking my ankle, so you know it's worthy! The owners are super rad folks. Their homemade Bailey's is far too good to only drink one glass. Their hot toddy may or may not have directly contributed to the breaking of my ankle.

The bar top is amazing. All of the ticket stubs are real, right? No dupes? We are impressed by the range of dates and the amount of Def Leppard.

oh wow, a friend of mine knows the owners and kept telling me to check it out and i kept ignoring him because he's whiny. little did i know it's all vegan AND has empanadas AND ankle-breaking drinks! welp, joke's on me. you guys had me at bloody mary and hot toddy.

Their bloody marys are good. They carded me (I'm 38!) but not calx (who is of a certain age). Ouch!

There were so many cute dogs there. Vegans + Brooklyn + in a bar = so many cute dogs. One guy came in talking on his cell phone, and talked on his cell phone for the whole time we were there, while his super cute dog was all, "Please love me? Someone?" Also, I think Spuds McKenzie was there. I guess Spuds McKenzie is vegan now?

The bar top had awesome stubs like Billy Idol from 2003.

Also they have one one of those deer hunting games there? I guess it's ironic?

The empanadas...they are not great. But if you drink enough they probably get all the way to pretty ok.

the bartender condescendingly warned me "be careful, there's a LOT of alcohol in this (sam in a sweater - super delish vodka/irish cream/root beer/brandied cherries drink made without cointreau because that sounds like it would grody it all up)," clearly underestimating my abilities. i'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was trying to be nice or sweet, but it doesn't matter anyway because of aforementioned carding offense.


you think any dog in a budweiser jersey is spuds mackenzie. and next time we go there and someone's got a dog and is ignoring it because they're on their goddamn cell phone the whole time, i'm coming home with a furry roommate.
