There was a meetup in Omaha yesterday at a sushi place. The chef did a complete vegan menu with all sort of awesome creative rolls. Candied peanuts, tofu skins, sweet potato tempura, avocado, pickled radish, mangoes... so many rolls! And then he brought us gigantic boats of tempura on the house! Here are some pics. luckyklutz and her moms and their sushi. Vegetable pancake! I can't even begin to dissect this, it was amazing. Lots of sushi! The chef even took our Veganaisse and made the mayo sauces for specialty rolls. The people love vegan sushi! And we went for ice cream at Whole Foods after! Oh and a little girl made me a PPK favicon. Conclusion: Vegans in Omaha have got it ok.

YEAH, Vegan Omaha!! That pancake looks amazing.
I love the Vegan Omaha shirts. The design is rad, and also, it's gotta be a conversation starter. "There are vegans in Omaha??"

That pancake was amazing, that picture of me was awkward. Also, the ice cream was the perfect ending.

All the sushi (except for the one roll with vegenaise) rolls are on the regular menu! It's just the best, but now I want them to put that pancake on the menu.

That roll with the vegenaise lit my mouth on fire anyways, so I'm okay with it not being on the regular menu. Stupid palate of mine. I'm excited that Chef Aloumi is open to more vegan items! I'm requesting the miso soup be vegan, always.

This post makes me happy.
I was actually born in Omaha, and I heard a couple of years ago about the city's creative scenes really starting to boom. Which really surprised me, because... Omaha?
Turns out it's true, though. They have a really cool arts community now, and it's cool to see that the vegan community is being fostered, as well. The boyfriend and I road trip there occasionally, so I'll have to make sure to stop by for vegan sushi next time I'm in town! The sweet potato tempura sounds like fried heaven.

Oh if you do visit, make sure to ask that the tempura be made without eggs. They will do it special for ya.

Matsu Sushi has jumped to the top of my list of Omaha dining because of the yummies I had here. I'm strongly considering creating a sushi night during Thanksgiving weekend to recreate the magic.

my mom lives in omaha and so I will be spending thanksgiving up there.
she will be making the usual turkey feast.
is there a good place in omaha to get a nice hot vegan meal that may be open on thanksgiving??
If not, is there a place or dish that I just HAVE to try while I'm in town??
