I would like to start having my daughter finger feed herself. She is doing great with purees and chunky purees. I was wondering what foods everyone started with. I am hoping to find a cereal that she can eat to practice her pincer grasp yet not choke. Any suggestions would be great. My family usually used Puffed Rice. How many pics are there of it stuck to my face as a baby? Don't ask! Thanks for the suggestions!

We started my daughter out on banana pieces (she quickly graduated to holding and entire peeled banana), peeled/cut grapes, cheerio-style cereals (later, though), and mango chunks.

My nephew loved cheerio covered banana pieces. Put cheerio-type-cereal in a ziplock, crunch, throw in banana pieces, close, shake.

I figured finely chopped fruits and soft veggies. Wasn't sure about the cereal though. I know Cheerios are not vegan and they do not dissolve in your mouth with spit. I am looking for a cereal that's Vegan and dissolvable in the mouth. Anyone know of one? Also, what do you feed your 8-9 month olds?

8-9 months I started steaming some grains like amaranth and blended them into the mashed fruit/veg of the meal. I think the Barbara's Bakery Breakfast O's are vegan.

we have been giving zelda veggie stix, snappea crisps, & happy baby puffs. the puffs do have d3 in them though. we tried avocado pieces, but z was not down with that. we're going to try some little tofu chunks next.

we just got a thing like this at our friend's suggestion. she's been putting lots of fruits & stuff in there for her baby to eat. not exactly finger food, but something that tiny can use to feed herself grown-up food. we literally just got home from buying it, so we haven't tried it out yet -- but i'll let you know how it goes!

For cereal, maybe Oatios? Those dissolve if you look at 'em long enough.
I remember taking a lot of the foods that I had been pureeing and just cutting them into little pieces instead: banana, avocado, potato, sweet potato, baked apple. The usual baby food suspects, really.

I even gave Emma avocado today and didn't realize until I pulverized it that I should have cut it into little pieces and let her try finger feeding. Oh well, I have 2 more!

Finger foods on hold for a few days. She is getting a tooth and it's about to surface. She isn't interested in food that much (even bananas which are her favorite!) right now.
