Where does everyone go for their music fix? I have a weakness for Other Music, but I've just been ordering directly from labels lately.

I'm trying to find the best spot for used vinyl (that's not the street) if anyone has a suggestion.

Generation Records on Thompson Street between West 3rd and Bleecker and Academy Records on North 6th in Williamsburg pretty much the only places I ever buy vinyl.

I usually go to Williamsburg and hit up Academy Records.

That's my next stop.

Uhg! If only my turntable didn't stop working YESTERDAY. I could kill.

I am a huge fan of Permanent Records in Greenpoint. It's small in size, but they have a great CD and LP selection.

My turntable magically started working again. The world is saved!

if you're mainly into vinyl, i highly recommend getting on insound's mailing list: http://www.insound.com/ They have warehouse sales in greenpoint about 3-4 times a year consisting mostly of vinyl along with some CDs, t-shirts, and posters. it's mostly newer stuff, but i've been able to find some old punk 45s and 70s rock LPs now and then.

also: not to hijack the thread, but does anyone have recs for a good place to get affordable (maybe even used) stereo equipment? i got a turntable for christmas, but that's all i have - i need speakers, amp, etc.

I have some LCD vinyl coming from insound. They have some amazing shiitake.

I'm in the market for a stereo setup as well. I keep scouring ebay for a cheap old one with a freakin' preamp in it, but I haven't had much luck. Instead, I might just buy this off of ebay because, well, I'm already there...

Permanent Records and there's a thrift store on Manhattan Ave. between Enid's and Three Kings Tattoo that some dude sells records in the back room and they're really good records for really cheap. Otherwise you should go on vacation and buy music when you're out of town because shiitake is too expensive here. fork paying $18-20 for a cd. Rockit Scientist used to be my jam, and they still have good stuff, but everything is way too expensive now, the prices have gone up by a good 300% in the last 5 years, however some of their vinyl is still a decent price and they have some really good and hard to find stuff.
