Okay, this is so not a vegan cookbook. However, it had enough veganizable in it that I wanted to post my review here. All in all I'm pretty pleased with the book. The baked goods, especially the pie crusts, muffins, and sandwich bread, are delicious; most of them call for very little starch (always arrowroot) and a relatively low amount of sugar (always agave). I used ground chia + water as an egg replacer in everything I tried, and it worked well. There's a whole chapter on non-vegan main dishes and a few desserts that I think would be hard to veganize, but in my opinion the baking recipes make the book worth the money anyway. There are quite a few naturally vegan recipes in there, but most require a bit of egg-replacing.
Oh- the sandwich bread? It's a quick-bread (leavened with baking soda) and is made mostly from almond butter and almond flour, but it really tastes neutral and made for great toast the other morning. I didn't feel quite so guilty for putting just jam on my toast when it was so high in protein. It also holds together well for slicing.
At any rate, my full review is on my blog
here. I highly recommend at least checking it out at the library for the muffins/pie crusts if nothing else.
