Earwax has been one of my favorite restaurants in the city years before I lived here. This sucks. I need their vegan benedict, jerk seitan sammich, buffalo seitan, and pretty much the entirety of the (vegan) menu in my life. I'm gonna go cry now. HEARTBREAK CITY! I've only gone there ten or so times, but I really enjoy the place. I'm sad for the neighborhood too, Earwax has been such a staple. If there is a meetup on Saturday, when would it be? I would love to do this.

Also, there are meetings to make posters and t-shirts and stuff every night this week at Filter...I believe the color of choice is orange.

Fred and I went to Earwax this afternoon. There was no indication that they're closing in less than a week--no sign on the door, no mention from our server, nothing. They also just changed the menu about a month ago. We didn't ask about it, but we did order all of our favorite things, just in case.

So is there an actual meetup happening at earwax? I probably am going for breakfast on Sunday, as I will be ogling all the bikes and assorted accoutrements at the cycle swap tomorrow morning. In any case, I wanted to spread some good news. It looks like a vegetarian deli is opening up in the old Tea Essence space on Milwaukee by Western. I was biking past and couldn't read the sign clearly, but I think its called Avocado.

Thanks for the swap reminder! I'll check out that new restaurant sign today since I'll be over there too.

I believe they are closed for good now. I went in tonight and there was nothing. I did luckily get a seat Friday night. It will be very missed since I live about 10 min away walking distance.

Hey Hey... I'm going to be in Chicago for a class in April, on S. Michigan Ave. Any recommendations for where to eat lunch close to there? I think we will have an hour break so preferably somewhere in walking distance, and relatively quick.
Thanks!

I just want to gloat about how I'm at the Diner right now. For the first time in at least a year. It's going to be a feast.

We will be in Chicago this week for vacation. We are so excited! Chicago Diner, Handlebar, Ian's Pizza and more are on our list. Any recommendations for independent coffee shops? We have some great one's here in Minneapolis/St Paul, we were hoping to find something great in Chicago as well. Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, any where we can get via public transit.

Ipsento on Western is pretty cool. Its also very near the Western stop on the blue line, so it should be easy to get to. I'd really like to recommend Star Lounge, but it'd be more difficult to get there, you'd have to take the Chicago Av bus.

WORMHOLE! it gets crowded on the weekends, but.. there's a delorean (and an old-school nintendo) inside and the coffee is amazing and they usually have vegan donuts. it's in wicker park.

Thanks for the ideas! I had Wormhole pinned on my phone already, now I have options. Our trip is a lazy, long weekend getaway with no particular point besides de-stressing, so a couple of bus transfers won't hurt us. We get on our train tomorrow morning and will be there tomorrow afternoon barring any delays with snow on the way.

I've long been one of Earwax's biggest fans, but this sounds a little fishy. And I've heard rumors that the owners didn't tell the staff and hired all new people. but those are rumors.
I really do hope they're reopening for the right reasons.
