Just ordered these together from Amazon. They were recommended to me for more gourmet type dishes. Any thoughts from those that might have either of these? Any tried and true recipes? Thanks!!

My copy of Millenium came today and there are so many things I want to try that I am not sure where to start! Definitely a book that has more complex recipes than the ones I already owned, but I am not the least bit intimidated. I wanted fancier recipes for dinner parties and this will fit the bill.

I remember liking the cactus gumbo from Artful Vegan. I'm mostly too lazy to spend that much time/effort making food, though.

the cranberry tart/galette (I've made it both ways and don't remember which is in the book) with the walnut crust from the Millennium Cookbook is great! The grapefruit/avocado salad is also good. I haven't been enterprising enough to make any of the multi-component main dishes.

I have the Artful Vegan and I've made several things. A lot of times I will only make part of the recipe (e.g., one of the three sauces or such) to simplify the preparation.
One of the simpler, yet very popular recipes that I've taken to parties is the black bean cakes with mango habanero sauce. People love it!

Arg, so I have most of the stuff, even the mint!! and I could sub for the kaffir lime leaves and mirin well enough, but I don't think I have usable cilantro! ARGH. And, this is why it's a special occasion cookbook. Maybe I could do all mint though, hm...

I've made a bunch of recipes (and broken down components) from The Artful Vegan, including the gumbo, baked tofu (easy peasy), seitan sausage (great flavors), eggplant dip and more I'm forgetting. The peanut butter mousse in the cannolis is fabulous, too. Some of the complete dishes have been very hit or miss, flavor wise, with dinner party guests - but the presentation is always knock out. I say don't let the books intimate you. Have fun, and feel free to try parts of recipes.

I love both these cookbooks. Everything I have made from them has been fabulous! I would say they are my absolute favorite cookbooks except that the recipes are too complex to cook from them everyday. They are definitely in a class all their own.
