I rewatched Repo Man this weekend, and you know, the UFO Lady is, um... Strikingly similar to Nina in Fringe. Like, one robot hand, and the same hairstyle and all that.

i normally don't care for nina and all her secrets, but i really liked it when walter looked expectantly at her and was like, "belly?!" and she was just so dead pan in her response. oh nina nina bo bina.

I watched the pilot and found it boring. I didn't even care enough to hate it.

Is that representative of the series as whole? I tend not to love straight-up self-serious sci-fi, unless there's something else to hook me (like BSG's extreme serialization).

i love it. i got the first season as a joke christmas gift because the show has pacey from dawson's creek in it, and we watched it jokingly and fell in love. one of our most favorite shows.

I figured that people here liked the show! I'm asking if it's likely that someone who disliked the pilot/serious sci-fi will like the rest!

I definitely thought the show hit its stride mid-way through Season 1. It comes off a bit mystery of the week at first, but fairly quickly they start connecting things. Even if you watch more it might still be too serious sci-fi for you, but I don't think the pilot is completely representative of what the show is.

frankly, i only really loved the first season. i question every week since then why i'm still watching it.

i think it's because every so often (like this past week), they'll throw in an episode that i enjoy. and then i'll watch again for a few weeks and wonder why the hell i'm still watching.

i wasn't into the pilot. i thought anna torv as olivia was unlikable. i ended up changing my mind as the season went along.

HOWEVER: i'm not into the pilot for almost every television show i watch. it's very rare that a show i like, even the ones i end up LOVING, grab me right from the pilot. example: i thought the BSG mini-series was sooooooo boring that i wanted to bang my head against the wall, but ended up loving BSG.

so, maybe give it a few more episodes? i guess is what i'm saying?

This is often true, but sometimes the pilot *is* what the show is. Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Dexter, Mad Men, Supernatural and The Walking Dead all pop to mind.

Then again, there's Buffy and Angel and The Vampire Diaries (my God, that was one of the most painful pilots I have ever seen), where watching the pilot doesn't tell you much about how the show will eventually turn out.

I'll give the second episode a try. I also didn't think much of Olivia, but it wasn't dislike. I mean, I *hated* The Vampire Diaries' at first, but at least it was invoking strong emotion.

I have to love a show in the pilot, or at least like it enough to wonder what's next. If not, I'm out. I waste enough of my life watching TV, I'm not going to give a show a bunch of time to grab me. I like it or I don't. That being said, Fringe is one of my favorites, but I totally forget the pilot. Maybe I'll go watch that right now.
