I know a girl who works at a salon on Newbury St but it's pretty pricey and just ok. I have long hair and just want a good, basic, reliable trim. Anyone know of a place that's not too spendy that will give a good basic cut? Preferably not in Allston or Cambridge or Somerville just because of distance. thanks!

I know someone on Newbury St. She costs $55, which I'm imagining might be too much for you, but she's pretty awesome!

If it's good I don't think that's too bad, actually. It seems like it's hard to find a good place in a big city nowadays that charges less than that anyway. The other girl I know charges about 60 but I just wasn't that impressed with the cut.

I really like the girl that I got to at I Soci, Hilary, but she charges $65. I'm tempted to try The Hidden Hair Salon in JP, but that might be too far for you. (Cost is $30; great Yelp reviews.) I will say that it's been a year since I last got my hair cut though, and the cut Hilary gave me still has a little shape to it.

thanks guys, I'm gonna try the one Dr. Apricot recommended first but I will look into these recs as well. ndpittman, that woman in JP gets great reviews on Yelp, wow. But I'm sort of wary of trusting the reviews on Yelp for hair salons since I've had some bad experiences. But let me know if you do try her, the price definitely sounds good.
